It always makes working retail such a drag. So many people in bad moods or complaining about this that and the other and sooo busy especially right before thanks giving or christmas! grah |

I used to be in that boat. Then I left retail. Now, other than crowded stores and streets, I love the holiday season. If we could just get rid of the 500,000 snowbirds that come down to our city every winter, I would be golden. |

I sympathize with that heart ache. I love Christmas I do.
But the customers have made this season particularly miserable thus far. T_T They are starting their gift shopping and have that one specific perfect gift in mind. Everyone seems to be having a bad day, and blaming me for either not having the item or not knowing where in the store it might be.
I'm sorry its not like we can reorder an antique if we don't have it.
A 1950's West German Hummel playing the accordian is a rather specific item. I don't think we'll have that but I'll look. T_T
No I'm sorry I don't know where you might find a piece of Marino glass. There are 30 different dealers who swap out their inventory daily. I'll be more than happy to walk around and help you look for one. No I didn't know you were on a strict time schedule I'm sorry.
Christmas Eve is the worst. |

Well if I can play Devils Advocate for a small moment, just because a person may not celebrate it, it doesn't mean another can still wish you a happy holiday despite it, if someone wished me happiness even if I didn't celebrate it, i'd take that as a compliment. Heck be glad that there is enough good will out there to have someone show some kindness to you. |

Good attitude! I'm Buddhist, and though I don't officially celebrate Christmas in a religious capacity, I celebrate it as a time to be close to family. Exchanging gifts and putting up decorations is just part of that.
I also have a baby on the way this March, so I am making damned sure he/she is going to have memorable Christmases just like I did growing up. The gifts are temporary, but the memories will last their entire life. In a way, I get to relive my own childhood Christmas experiences, and that's definitely a cool thing.
But yeah, the holidays always meant a lot less to me when I worked in retail. I couldn't have much cheer in a time that signified a hell of a lot more work and aggravation for me. I definitely feel where some of you guys are coming from. |

I do not miss retail. Putting up Christmas decorations in-store the day after Halloween made me feel dirty. |

I actually love the holiday season.
Yea there's this that and the other thing but I like to spend time with people I like or to do nice things for them. I mean yea it's over commercialized and all but I love watching the classic Holiday movies, brings a tear to my eyes. I don't usually celebrate with my family, although I would love to, I respect that they don't want to so I usually spend my days holed up in my room reflecting, thinking about all the fun I'll have someday down the line  Gets me in a Happy Mood no matter what all is falling down around me for at least one time a year. |

I watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation with my dad every year. We drink egg nog too. Christmas Story also gets several viewings. It's a fun time of year for me, and the weather actually gets somewhat nice down here compared to the mosquito-ridden sweat fest it normally is. The MMO's always seem to have a Christmas celebration of some kind these days. Yep, I pretty much love the Xmas season now |

Yeah I agree 2 year stint in movie and a 2 year stint in videogame retail was enough to put the bah in my humbug. People get all frenzied trying to find th perfect gift when sometimes they don't really understand that being there and sharig the time is the gift.
I never really knew why there was a pricetag put on Christmas. It's nice to be able to give those you love a token of your caring but who says it has to be bought?
Also, remember when you are shopping, you could very well be that person someone who works retail is complaining about.  |
