How much farther are these people gonna take the video game violence crap?? I mean its not enough that every news station on the planet supports the disproven theory that violent video games creat violent kids. But now the have to take one of the most popular crime drama's on TV and have a show about it..... I was watching the good CSI last night (Las Vegas for those of you who are idiots and think its not the best) and I saw the preview for next weeks CSI Miami. I cant honestly say I have been that pissed off over a TV show ever.

They are airing an episode about kids that play video games, then go act them out in real life. Killing people, robbing banks, and making retarded comments about "We're still in the game". People dont do that. And I know its just a tv show, but the sad thing is, a lot of people will take it seriously. I wouldnt be a bit supprised if that moron, Jack Thompson had something to do with this too. And it doesnt help that they have the worst actors on the planet, participating in this show.

Oh and another thing, they showed clips from this video game the kids are playing...... BLATANTLY GTA. The only main difference I could tell from the clips they showed.... was that the main character was white.

you know what...let them do it. It's the tv-stations desire to do it. If they do it, then thats fine with me. I never watched CSI in the first place, but if i did, i'd probably jsut stop watching it. You ruined it for me now...and thats that.

*that is all

Really, the media and politicians are not as against videogames as it appears lots of times. Its just those that are, are disproportionately vocal, and those of us that would speak up against them, don't have the same amount of public spotlight.

Not that I agree with what they are doing either, but seriously, CSI is barely more than a drama, it is the absolute worst science related show in existance. James Bond has more factual information half the time, so at least it is not a show that is scientifically well credited. Not that it matters to the people that are going to watch it.

Just a reminder: This is the same CSI that portrayed the furry community in a factual and non-biased format, and did not under any circumstances alter the terminology thereof in order to make the whole fandom look like a bunch of zoophilic freaks, right?

I'm tired and can't think straight, but I hope that's sarcasm... I've never seen the episode because I know it would just make me mad, but let's not thread hijack here and make this a CSI rant. I will throw in my two-cents though, because I can't ever *not* comment on things, and I will say that despite seeking out some furries' opinions on things, the director went completely against it and did make it very negatively biased, in my humble opinion. At least that's my understanding of it. I'm a furry. Do I do that stuff in the episode? Heck no. If that is supposed to be a factual portrayal, then I am highly amused and miffed at the same time. But, back to video game violence and such... since that's what this was about in the first place.

Yeah... I hate episodes like the one you mentioned Faye. Leave it to the media, eh? It's a generalization though. The media has its good moments too... I just can't think of any at the moment. Laughing It reminds me of an article I saw in a paper a few months ago about a college kid that had his life ruined by "World of Warcraft." The media likes to seize on the extreme cases, the "bad apples" and make it look like EVERYBODY with that particular interest is like that.

This is general media tendency - it happens with most things that don't theoretically have enough power to make a strong push for a defamation of character argument - simply because the large majority of people in any fandom, vid games, furries, or otherwise, are perfectly sane, law-abiding, otherwise normal people who happen to have a few "odd" interests. Those people do not make "good" television, because you can't draw up plots around normal people in crime shows - they don't commit crimes like that. (If you want a visual reference, imagine CSI doing an entire show around someone who's gay, where the homosexuality is structured to be the root cause of why someone's doing all these crimes. Then listen for a moment to the backlash that would occur over it. Video gamers don't have that kind of ability.)

Television fiction has to create a world where the exceptions ar the rule, especially in crime dramas. Where the problems develop is that people start thinking of the television's world as the real world and react accordingly - generally a xenophobic reaction. Which is sad.

I'm beginning to think we might need a new broadcast regulation - a nice little blurb that precedes every television program (including the news these days, I'd say, but that wouldn't fly) - "The following program is a work of fiction. While there may have been some research done, representations and depictions of people and groups in this program do not necessarily reflect the reality of those groups in the world around you. Always exercise caution when applying anything from this program to the world around you."

I don't know how many people would get the message, but it might help.

As a two-time God-Level member of Furry Weekend Atlanta, I can assure you that it was. I was more registering my lack of surprise that the media (CSI in this case) has yet again decided to turn a not-quite-properly-understood issue into yet another circus for their own amusement.
