Flying Frenzy

Ok, I don't like to do this, but I'm so stressed right now, that I really don't care anymore. Only I do and that's what sucks the most. Here goes. As you all know, I had Auran last October. Well, my company's fiscal year is from September to August. That means that my vacation refills in September instead of January, which is when most companies roll over. Well, we have maternity leave, but it's paid through vacation and sick leave. Therefore, if I want to continue to pay my bills on maternity leave, I eat up all my vacation and sick leave. So I'm at 0 hours for both.

A couple of weeks ago, we lost 3 uncles and 1 aunt on my mom's side of the family...all in one week. Mom's family lives in Michigan. Early this December, my Grandma and Papa on mom's side came down to see us and meet Auran. I expected this to be the last time I would see my grandmother alive. Well, grandma's getting worse and papa's not doing so well and I'm out of leave.

Mom gets this bright idea that when dad has time off, they're going to go to MI and wanted know if Auran and I wanted to go too. DUH!!! So I get with my Executive Director and tell her the situation and tell her they're planning on July, which is what she told me. She says that I can do it and we look in the Policies and Procedures for some sort of vacation advance. What do you know, there's something there! So I've got OK to go, I'm even getting paid for it. I call mom and tell her all is a go and she tells me it's not. Now, my dad can only get off next week and the one after that. That means they're driving cause plane tickets are muy expensive. When they drive, they take 2 weeks and I can only take 1. So I say Auran and I will fly and meet them there. Mom says I can't handle Auran, who's 7 months old mind you, at an airport all that time alone. Sure it'll be hard, but people fly with children all the time. So she plants the seed of doubt and I start to see her point. So we start looking for different plane tickets for all 4 of us. No go.

So the last time I talk to her, dad says "like I said, you two go and I'll stay here." Uh, sorry, not happening. This is their vacation in the first place. I'm not going to take his place when he wants to go so badly, which is rare. And you know what she says? "I just don't want to choose between you two". Yeah that's fucking great, mom. Make your daughter do it for you. Thanks a lot.

So 4 hours of searching later, I think I've come to the conclusion that either Auran and I are flying alone or we're saving the trip for some other time in the fall when I legally have the time. (possibly awa) I just want him to see his family cause he's already lost so many great people without meeting them.

*sigh* whatever, I'm going to bed.

Flying alone isn't that bad. As long as you have someone to take you there and to be there to pick you up. Your old enough for Children, so I think you can handle yourself right? It's also a lot less stress on the baby to fly than to take a long road trip. There is so much security at airports and all you have to do is scream and people will freak out and start pointing. Anyway, hope that helps you make your mind.

You'll be able to to manage it, and who knows Auran may fly well. My brother and I have been flying alone with our mom since we were both two weeks old since my mom wanted to have her babies in the U.S. and we would take trips in the summer to see her mother and father. I even have my first set of delta wings in my baby book still. I never made a peep on an airplane, and managed the trips very well. My brother was less behaved on planes, but I do believe your doctor can prescribe a mild sedative for the baby, if it becomes an issue on the flight. The airports are all generally used to the new security procedure so so flying now is a lot less hectic than it used to be.

Don't get discouraged. This seems really important to you, you should definately go if you can make it happen.

I think you guys will be fine flying. It's just a matter of finding a flight. The ones that we looked at last night weren't bad, but you may find specials. keep looking day to day and see what happens.

Well, after a long talk with my sister and a few choice words in my mother's direction, we've decided to stay here...for now at least. This was supposed to be mom and dad's thing and mom just dropped this on all of us. I know her intentions were good, but nonetheless. Plus Kristi, my sister, informed me the whole reason why mom brought up us coming with her is so that Kristi could fly in from Mass and see us. Well, if that's the case, why don't we just go see her? Flights are still a maybe, but not next week. Screw that. Thanks for listening and caring you guys. I grew up without seeing half of my family, and while it sucked, I wound up fine. There's no reason why Auran can't wait until he's older to see what family he has up there. At least if he's older, he'll remember it.

OK, I think things are starting to come together. Dad can get off in the first week in July. And despite recent events at work, my time off is still a go. Now all we need to do is figure out Kristi's situation. It's muy cheaper for her to go to Detroit instead of Flint, which is the airport we're flying into. And Papa can't make that drive anymore, so right now, that's up in the air, but I figure if no one who lives there can get her, I'll kidnap Papa and the van and get her myself. I've got no problem driving up there...at least there people use their stinkin blinkers. Whew. My mind is almost at ease. I'm thinkin a few beers later, I'll be good to go. Wink

The trip is offically a go. My sister e-mailed me a possible itenerary for us and she's working on one for herself. Don't know why she did one for us, but now this will mean we get the ones we want. Kristi and I have taken over this trip to make it work. Mom and I are buying tickets today. Thank Mod. I can't thank you guys again for being so supportive about this. I'll be sure to post pics of teh family.
