Traffic...and you!

So for those of you who keep track of the weather in the tri-state area, there were lots of downpours all over New York today. I had to take my dad to a doctor's appointment, which was ok. It's not the first time i've driven in the rain.

Well, we hit some minor traffic in CT, and my dad remembers that we need his pump. WE turn around, get stuck in some more traffic, and then get it, and continue on our way.

Then we get to NY...and the cars stop.

We get off the highway for a bit, grab a bite, and get back on...we start taking some other routes, and we are moving along in a rather good pace. Then we get to the FDR drive.

And once again...the cars stop.

The FDR today had flooded on both sides, restricting traffic from progressing. Not only did this stop traffic, but we had passed the last exit that the police were diverting traffic off of. So we were sitting there...as the water level continued to rise.

Finally, we see people walking from the tunnel, and my dad and I look at each other. He wasn't gonna walk...he has a cane...cummon! So we turn around, and we see...thats right...cars pullin U-ies and turning around on an expressway. Well...this is the first (and probably the last) time i was able to drive the wrong way on an expressway. It had it's fun factor...till the cars stopped again. Then, after sitting there for another 10 minutes or so, i turn around and see...thats right...no more cars behind me. The traffic began to move in the RIGHT direction. Time to pull another U-turn!

Anywho, lets just say that i spent a good 6 hours trying to get my dad to an appointment, which we inevitably cancelled due to the urge to murder small, furry animals. Now, i listen to Sublime...and i feel better Very Happy

Yeah...

Let's just be grateful that I wasn't there. I probably would have lost it and committed some sort of vehicular manslaughter.

Geez....just hearing about it makes me angry...

I remember being stuck on I285 for four hours because a cattle truck had tipped over and there was a stampede on the highway. Or howbout the time a tanker full of jet fuel jacknifed on the off ramp to 400 and exploded, thereby taking out the off ramp with it. Gee, I miss driving in Atlanta.... NOT!

There was this one time around here that a tanker truck crashed and spilled battery acid all over the highway. Yeah....they needed to call in the emergency road crew...

there was a time that a tanker tipped over and spilt slow-burning fuel onto the newly built bridge. It burned for long enough that it caused the bridge that it was on to actually sag.

You know waht's funny...all three stories started with "This tanker..."

Why are tanker/truck drivers not good drivers?
