Do any fo you guys import british gaming magazines?
WHSmiths in England sometime stocks a couple of US mags, Electronic Gaming Monthly and another I forget the name of. I've picked them up once or twice but found them to be extrmely immature, and in some places uninformed.
This isn't a knock on anything thats published over there, but I think, if you have the cash and want some decent gaming reads, you ight want to look at getting GamesTM or EDGE sent over there, both are good reads, with GamesTM covering various subjects within the Industry (although its gone down hill a bit since it changed puoblisher, enough for me not to buy it anymore) and EDGE can be a bit of a difficult read but has some great developer interviews (I've bought the past 2 issues and in them they've done interviews with Suda51 from Grasshopper, Peter Moore, Phil; Harrison, Miyamoto, the team doing the new Alone in the Dark, ninja Theory of Heavenly Sword fame and the Ubisoft team making Red Steel). |

There are so MANY american publications that I probably wouldnt consider UK magazines. Especially since the relase dates would be all wrong, which is part of the reason I subscribe to one. |

The two mags I mentioned specialise mroe in other content, obviously they do the whole reviews and previews and release schedules but theyre forte is in other areas, GamesTM for example has a 20 page area at the back of the mag completely dedicated to retro gaming, where as Edge has studies of various game creation technologies and such like, they both make for interesting reading, although I'm sure you guys have your own equivalent |

Actually, the reto idea has been touched on, but Ive never seen a publication with so much regular reivews or subject matter on old games.
In GameInformer, there a page in the back about what they rated a game then, and how theyd rate it now, its alwyas old SNES or Genesis games, kinda fun.
Anywho, do these mags have websites? |

Riva-
Our Gamestop that I work at imports magazines like Edge, I have to say I dig the Euro magazines. I'm not sure if other Gamestops do but it's worth a shot for anyone in the states who wants another take on gaming news. |

UK games magazines have been far superior to anything we have in the US for quite awhile now. You guys are lucky, you have some truly enthusiast type publications. The design, art, journalism style and content are so much better. Here, we have thin magazines with 50% ad content, two paragraph reviews, and more frequently.. no journalistic integrity.
EGM is passable, but nothing compared to its heyday in the 90's. Game Informer blows chunks and appears to be run by a bunch of amateurs. Some of the other mags out there have no journalistic integrity. Their content placement is for sale to the highest bidder.
I will say that Tips & Tricks is still pretty good, as is Play!. GameFan was my favorite console-based mag, and now they're long gone. PC Accelerator was my favorite PC-based mag and they've also been gone for years.
I have read GamesTM and Edge, the Barnes and Noble here imports them. I've considered subscribing for awhile now, but the additional price has been holding me back. |

How much do they cost over there?
GameSTM has gone down hill since the publisher take over, many have said its slowly improving but I've browsed it and just not got the same feeling as I did from it, despite the fact the writing team (aside from the editor) is exactly the same.
EDGE, are very, erm how do I put this politely? up themselves, they also like to use big words, even when not needed!
Other than thast, theyre both alright reads, better than everything else on offer over here anyways |
