War on Kamchaka - We're closing in (Updated 3-02)

Prince Dietrich von Brünnerheim crouches with his forces in the underbrush near a wide path that runs east-west through the jungle. They wait in silence while scouts check out the path for several hundred feet in either direction. The report comes in: the path seems clear to the west, and eastward it bends towards the west gate of the city, which appears unguarded.

Dietrich concentrates his awareness towards the gate. He confirms the presence of no guards, but can sense a group just inside the city, about as numerous as his own. Deeper in the heart of the city, he senses more indistinctly a large gathering of hundreds. Dietrich turns to his second in command.

"The group inside the gate may be hostile, but we cannot afford to avoid them. I sense a gathering in the middle of the city, which may cause even greater interference in my plans. Captain Burgess, take the main force in and engage whatever resistance you find near the gate; I shall slip by with the infiltration team and move on the temple square. If you can make your way to us, do so; otherwise, minimize losses and pull back as soon as we are clear of the gate - we'll rondevous back at the beach."

"Understood, my Lord," Burgess answers. He signals to the troops and the greater part of them spill onto the road and form into ranks - Captain Burgess takes the head of the column, with two Lieutenants each leading eight of the rag-tag rebels. At Burgess' command, they all salute their Prince, then turn and march off towards the city.

Dietrich turns to the remaining men, Lieutenant Emory and his four infiltration specialists. He fixes them with a cold stare from his pale green eyes, knowing that the success of his plan will depend on the abilities of these five men. Prince Dietrich von Brünnerheim does not like to rely on others.
