So. Everything seems to be going well. I've got a decent array of classes this semester, even if I'm being a bit ambitious and signed up for six classes. Buut...y'know, one of them is a PE class and one's Speech and one Beginning French, all of which are easy-peasy given I took French in High School and my sister's all but fluent in it and keeps me on my toes. So, all is good, I can totally handle it.

I'm feeling good, so I start looking at what classes I want to take in the Spring. Because, y'know, always good to have that sorted out before registration (which is at the end of October) so you can type in the CRNs really quickly and get the classes you want.

...I'm an English major, and literally -two- of the required higher level courses are being offered. There's a bunch of -bullshit- courses that don't fit into -any- requirements and a few of the higher level options which sound -horrible- like Southern Literature, Modernism, and Victorian Literature. Yawn. And my Mythology course.

BUT THAT'S IT.

WTF IS WRONG WITH MY SCHOOL?

I'm trying to get my arse in gear and, y'know, graduate. And that's hard to do if you don't offer the courses I need. Like, the ones that are REQUIRED and marked as such? You could, maybe, ditch the bullshit classes and offer more of those? And not just ones that have a prerequisite.

I'm taking a grand total of -one- English course. Because I can't take Advanced Composition since I haven't taken Intermediate yet, and the only classes I -could- take that would fit my -requirements- are writing intensive like the course I -want- to take and I'm still not feeling secure enough to take two writing intensive (meaning a paper a week) classes in one semester.

After this semester, I will be literally -out- of extra non-English non-Philosophy classes, because I had to take all of the stuff I was saving to give me at least one class a semester that wasn't an English/Philosophy course. But I can't, because my school friggin' hates me. We have the top English Department in the -state- and they ignore it. The classes they do offer are -crap-, for the most part, and not enough of them are offered. Because all they care about is the Biology Department, the Business classes, and the Criminal Justice department.

Nothing against those of you who care about that, but jeebus, throw me a friggin' BONE. Lawyers, Doctors, and Businesspeople aren't the only people in the world. And after the shite this school has already put me through when I was on academic probation, this just royally pisses me off.

First they try to stop me from registering at all, and then they throw crap at me when I finally get to a level where I -can-.

THANKS A LOT, FUCKERS. I HATE YOU ALL, MANAGEMENT PEOPLE OF NGCSU.

...though I will say thank you for keeping six or seven Philosophy classes you do have so that those of us who have interest in that sort of thing have -some- chance. Assholes.

Wow... ummm...

It's ok baby, you don't have to rush through it. I know you want to be done. And you'll get done. It's ok if it takes the summer or something.

hang in there.

This part really doesn't have anything to do with me being in a rush. It has to do with the fact that my school isn't offering the courses I need. If they don't offer them, I can't take them, and you have to have a certain number of courses just to be a full time student...which you have to be in order to receive certain Financial Aid grants that I might possibly be eligible for next semester.

And I'd really -like- to take more than just one English course, because it will -suck- to take five English courses in one semester because I don't have anything left.

You know you could always see if Gainesville offers a 4 year program for English now that they are a 4 year school.

Well, lets just say I'm a bit in your boat Legend. Lots of English Courses that I have the oppertunity to take, yet none of them are really interesting...in fact, most of them are pretty dumb sounding. I'm also assuming that you are going into the writing field, since you seem to have a big emphasis on higher-level writing courses. I'm also doing the same thing.

Im just confused...is it that the school isn't doing very many english courses, like only 2 or 3 courses, or that they are offering the courses and they're not the courses that you desire taking(Not to sound like a meanie...just curious)?

The reason why i bring this up is because i know where i go, i've have a bunch of english courses that i don't want to take, but im gonna have to just to graduate, even though they have nothing to do with my concentration (Which is English Writing)

that is all

Hang in there, Legend. And complain to your advisors about this predicament, and see if they can't help you out - they might be able to find some requirements in classes you're already taking or set you up for some independent studies.

90% of my problem is that nearly all of the classes that they -are- offering as far as English is concerned are either basic level courses I've already taken, courses that do -not- fit into my requirements at all, one course that does fit in my requirements but has a prerequisite class that isn't being offered said semester and I haven't taken yet, so I can't take that class. And a bunch of boring sounding higher level classes that I could only take one of even if I did want to have two Writing-Intensive courses in one semester.

And I am -not- changing to Gainesville, Blackmage. Transferring is a pain in the arse, and if I -were- to transfer, it'd be to somewhere like Georgia State. Something that will, y'know, look decent on a resume.

Silver-- I'll try, but I don't think my advisor really has much say in it all.

dude, talk to your advisors about the class you want to take that has a prerequisite that isn't being offered. If anything, you can either talk with your advisor or the teacher and get written into the class anyways, since the prereq isn't being offered.
