I remember it being banded around 4 years ago, and being aimed at bands such as Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard Confessional. Now its aimed at bands that sound like Pop Punk, with dress sense similar to that of Green Day's American Idiot promo shoots.

So, I'm a bit confused, and whats the need to have so many labels anyway?

True, people should listen to music because its good music. With the labels however, is the point that people try soooo hard to be like or dress like 'popular' people.

In the sense of what is emo. I will have to find the youtube video and post if for you, but simply put I will quote from the movie ill post here in a few minutes. "I saw a dead bird today, and it made me sad and then it caused me to think about all the starving kids in the world and how the world is just sooo sad, you know, and its just really sad" Stuff like that is what boils me.

I dont try to label, but quit F***ng crying about crap.

Anyhow i think it got off topic. Emo in music is like being Goth but whiney and depressed.

Bands that are EMO

Panic! At the Disco
My Chemical Romance

Im sure there are a couple more. Go listen to the words, song structure, musical tenure and you may get what im trying to put to words. Sorry im not a word guy. I play guitar. I could play you emo, but... thats not me. Smile

Pretty much every rock band coming out right now is emo, I hate to say.

And what's more, is them all touting "We're bringing rock and roll back." and all I hear is whine whine whine.

Hawthorne Heights was a perfect example. I was force fed that the face of rock has changed and will never be the same again from constant barrages of commercials for their stuff. All I heard was insert change, receive same style vending machine band as had been out for years.

Now there's hinder. Yeah his voice is different but it's the same old stuff.

It all doesn't matter anyway because now even MTV2 has random shows and no music any longer and they were supposed to be the ones who had all the videos.

AND - when either Cumulus or Clear Channel own all the radio stations you are constantly being fed the same pewp on the hour you rarely get to hear anything. No wonder so many people are turning to satellite radio.

While it's true that My Chemical Romance is "emo", it's really only on the surface, and they're actually pretty good. When you listen to them enough, you'll find that they're lyrics are actually not very whiney at all, and can be pretty funny at times, which is not really "emo".

Just my opinion though.

There are some bands that are doing a decent job of trying to revive rock and roll the way it should be. Bands like The White Stripes and Jet instatly come to mind.

I dont think they're the bands Doot was on about, as they've easily been popular for a number of years now.

I think you cleared up what I was thinking Hoth, and both yourself and Doot are right, its complete BS.

alot of the recent "rock" music doesn't appeal to me anymore.

I'm more of a party music rock n roll guy so you'll frequently witness groups like [spunge], A, The Ramones and others pop up on my last.fm scrobbler thing.

When I do listen to music that may be considered whiney, its usually stuff like this:

Feeder - Yesterday Went Too Soon

Which I consider to be a great song that really does stir up some confused emotions (it generates memories mostly, some good, some not so good so its very much a rollercoaster song for me) and is one of my fabvourite all time songs.

Yeah I personally like My Chemical Romance. Its the structure of the songs that lean to the emo feel.

When I think of bad emo bands, the first two the come to mind are Dashboard Confessional (which I think is who ultimately started the emo movement) and The Used (which is what I think represents what emo evolved into). I know that me saying The Used is bad will probably cause some people to be angry, but something about them just rubs me the wrong way.
