I have a laptop...it has been very good to me until now. BUT, the internal cd/dvdburner/player isn't working.

Good:
1. It accepts commands both through software and manual to eject CDs...
2. is getting power,

Bad:
1. BUT it refuses to spin anything.
2. It will make about 6 little clicking noises like many of them do when it first reads something...then it just stops.
3. It also does not list there being anything in the drive when I check 'My Computer'

Any advice on where to go or what to do is appreciated.

I've never taken apart a laptop but I've done PC nuilding for years now. You have two connections for a CD drive in a PC: the power and the communication. Assuming a laptop is the same, here's what I can offer:
If your drive is operating at all then the power for it is fine. If it's not reading on the "My Computer" screen then it's a communication problem. You'll have to open it up and check the connections and simply tighten the plug in. Hopefully. If it's bigger than that it could be anything from a physical problem with the motor (or maybe a broken band) all the way up to a glitch in your Windows (so you'd have to totally reinstall your OS). One thing with computers is that there's a billion things that *could* be wrong at any given time. Hopefully it's just a loose connection. Either way, I'd say you have to go inside of it. Go into the Setup when you reboot and check if it's recognized. If it is then it's a Windows thing. If it's not then it's a laptop thing.

Or you could just bang on the side. That always worked for my mom with anything electronic.

Just kidding...don't do that.

The problem is, I've never worked with the insides of a laptop..cracking it open kinda makes me nervous being that the rest of it works...I don't want to break the whole thing.

Mine does that sometimes. Usually I end up just taking it out, and putting it back in. Eventually it reads it. There are some games, however, that it simply -refuses- to read.

I think its been broken for a while now...I didn't think anything of it but, it did the same thing with a picture CD a few weeks ago.

I wonder if it would just be cheaper to pick up an external CD drive...burning stuff isn't such a big deal...

I know they make cases for hard drives...do they have something like that for cd burners? If there is, I could just pull my old one off my old PC
