Right now I am sitting on a 90 minute conference call (on mute) where I have nothing to say, nothing to do, and nothing that directly pertains to me. So, you may ask, "Why am I here?"...b/c my boss made me and dubbs it as a "good experience" to see how this whole process unfolds , blah, blah, blah.

The only cool thing about this call is that it has all our competitors there...and i don't think my boss knew that.

But yeah, when all is said and done, 90 minutes of my life will be over. The ppl who are physically there at least get breaks...

Then is a couple hours, I get to rot away on our team call...a joyous day huh?

Don't be surprised if my boredom causes some randomness to come from me in my posts...Wheeee

heh...experience is to be had though.

Then you can level up and learn lvl3 business, which will allow you to learn the skills "Bookkeeping", "Manage-blasta", and "Pencil-in-the-eye." Expect good things from this experience...trust me on this one.

I think sitting on conference calls all day makes my manager feel smart and important. That's where you just want to pat him on the head and tell him "Good boy"

He's not the brightest bulb...we all know more about the business than he does...I just like the fact that he's all the way on the west coast and I'm on the east...

In my limited business experience (as an intern for Pepsi last year) I came to the conclusion that about half of everything that companies do is completely and utterly a waste of time. I got to sit through a lot of meetings while I was there, and I can tell you, most of them are completely a waste of time and productivity.

And unfortunately, that's the way pretty much all business has become, and will be until someone comes in and decides to change things by ending the nonsense that is beauracracy.

From my understanding, managers don't really need to know exactly how to do the jobs of their employees. It's not what they're "graded" on. Managers are graded on how well they lead you to do your job, regardless of how much knowledge they have of your job. Working at Best Buy my immediate manager didn't know that I was supposed to have a login to the UPS site so I could mail off some packages (worked in Inventory and took care of shipping and recieving at the time). However, he certainly is qualified for getting me to work and work hard/fast. That's why he's my manager.

My manager was "one of us" it was between him and the acting manager at the time and b/c he was a former AT&T guy and on the west cioast, he got the job over the other who really knew her stuff.

I think his main problem is that he doesn't know how to be a manager. He still does the same work that we do and refuses to let go of his old job. He's been our manager for a year now and has just now gotten round to making some initiatives that should have been made from the start.

Its a bunch of little things. For instance, we have 2 long-term contractors on our team (keep them until they say we have to fire them kind) They both need a Blackberry. But my manager claims that b/c they are contractors, its not allowed and he doesn't kow how to get one for them. My BB broke so, I had to oder a new one...right there on the site, it has instructions for how to order on behalf of a contractor...He doesn't know how to do something...and doesn't even try to find out.

Another thing...all our assignments are tracked on a traffic report, that way you know exactly when we are free for another project. He maintains that report, yet he still has to ask each of us if we are free for a new project.
