I'm not big on the song by that title...for any other reason than I simply don't find much in the melody to hook me. I liked the songs I heard from their last CD, though. <3
T_T CD's don't hold much for me anymore, though. My car no longer reads 'em, and I can't listen to music while I'm doing anything other than driving or nothing...and I get bored if I only listen, so it's all radio for me. |

Just a fun anecdote about My Chemical Romance...
I read an interview with them, sometime last year when they were still up and coming and on the Warped Tour. The interview talked about how, while all the other bands on the Warped Tour were out partying, My Chemical Romance hopped in their white tour van, and headed for the nearest Walmart to stock up on "supplies". Among the stuff that they bought was a set of shelves of some sort. The interviewer asked Gerard (the lead singer) what the shelves were for, and he replied that they were to "organize my D&D books".
Yay for geeks! |

I see where you're coming from, but you're assuming terribly much with that statement. Terribly much. |
Fair enough
and by taking the piss, I meant that they were probably aware of what the press would be like due to the current teen trend and them being one of the biggest bands of that group of people and decided to have a play around within the song.
Although that might be just my British sense of humour |

Awesome. I still don't like what I've heard though. I do like Helena I don't like Black Parade at all. If I hear 'When I was a young boy..' one more time I'll scream. Literally. |

See, the station I used to listen to that played modern rock changed format to talk radio, so I haven't had the chance to hear it overplayed yet. |

This thread is an interesting study on people's music tastes within a certain band. :] And the effects of overplaying songs. The radio should do experiments on that. Maybe they have. I dunno.
Ah, thanks Riva Oni for clearing that up, but I still think it's assuming. I'm trying to move out of assuming things, heh. |

Having some background in marketing, I would make the assumption and hope that radio stations did studies on overplaying songs. But, my experience listening to the radio a lot indicated otherwise. And while I haven't really heard "Welcome to the Black Parade" overplayed on the radio, I have heard A LOT of other songs utterly killed because they just play them too much.
It does go beyond that, however. Certain bands in general are also grossly overplayed. The stations that I usually listen to have a tendency to WAY overplay U2. And you know what happened? I went from liking U2 a few years ago to shutting the radio off every time I hear them now. |

First off I love what he did to his hair. The emo crowd does love him. He had that black side swept over face look (became a trademark "Emo" look) and now he stepped away from that cut most of his hair off and bleached it. To me that is stepping away from the normal. The CD is good in my opinion. Maybe later I'll do a song by song but right now I'm listening to the incredible and eccentric Ben Folds. (Live album) |

99x, the old Buzz and 96 Rock all have the habit of overplaying songs. And it almost seems like the new Project 9-6-1 is going to do the same |

I have their first album, and while I concede that MCR IS emo rock, I gotta say I find the song The Black Parade annoying. Yeah it gets overplayed on the radio, but that's not what annoyed me about it. The beginning was very building, like it was going to be remnicent of Queen, and then it jumps into this poppy tune that to me sounded like a dark version of Aqua. That might have been what they were going for, and they certainly did that on the old album, but the buildup wasn't there. It's like taking the wrapper off of a blow pop only to find a dumdum. I was left feeling shafted, like they started it out to be a power ballad then stole a melody from Good Charlotte. I hope the rest of the album is much better, as I was hoping for something either darker, or along the same lines as the first album.
