Part 7: The Beginning
Sperrit awoke slowly, all of his senses fading in and out.
"S...r..t....ak...u.....lease....e...it"
"Sp..r..t.Wak...up...lease...pe..it"
"Sper..t..Wak..up..Please...perrit!"
"Sperrit! Wake up! Please Sperrit!"
Sperrit's eyes opened and focused. He could see the ceiling of Alerea's room, and Alerea's beautiful face swimming before him. He smiled, reached out and took her hand. "I missed you."
In a matter of seconds she went from looking releaved to looking furious. "You! You have me really worried!"
Sperrit grinned and sat up. "I'm sorry. I didn't have much choice in the matter, myself." He rubbed his head, which felt like it had taken a good hit. "I fell on the floor, didn't I?"
Alerea, now sure that he was alright, laughed. "You crumpled like a piece of paper. What happened?"
Sperrit stood up, teetering a little and then steadied himself. "I met the Earth Dragon, Eidon. He told me... many things." Sperrit didn't feel like going through his new found family history right at that second, though he ached to tell Alerea. The Wind Palace was not the best place to tell secrets. "I need to see your father."
Alerea, puzzled, but gaining confidence, took his hand and walked him from the room, both of them going up to the top of the tower where Sperrit had met the Regis before. They opened the door to find the Regis alone and looking at some piece of paper. Hearing them enter the Regis looked up from his paper, his eyes glinting with surpressed annoyance.
"Hello Terramyr. Do you need something? I was just going over troop movements and I'm rather busy..."
Sperrit strode over to him, looking him right in the eye. "I'm the Elder of the Earth Elementals and the Earth Dragon's Chosen. You know that both of these things are true. So I'm asking you to NOT start a war with the Void until the Seven have had a chance to defeat it."
The Regis lept from his seat, anger in his eyes at being addressed so. He turned to Alerea. "You told him? I can't believe it! All this nonsense about the Chosen! It's pure rubish and you know it!"
Alerea glared back at her father. "You and I both know that it's not! If it was then you would never have told me about it!"
Sperrit stepped between the two, looking at the Regis. "Even if she hadn't have told me I would have found out anyway. I just spoke with the Earth Dragon, who gave me his Gift."
The Regis snorted. "Don't be ridiculous! The Dragons have all been imprisoned for a thousand generations. No one has seen hide nor hair of them!"
Sperrit shook his head. "You're wrong. I've already seen both the Wind and the Earth Dragons, the Wind when it was released from it's prison. And by now others must have been released. The Dragons are awakening. And I have this to prove it."
Sperrit took his flower pendant in his hand and it's started to glow a brilliant green. A powerful light filled the room and The Regis had to avert his eyes. Sperrit released the pendant and the light faded. The Regis looked down at the pendant and his eyes widened.
"Gaia's pendant.... It can't be...."
Sperrit smiled. "It can and it is. I'm sure you know the legend as well as I do. Gaia's pendant was the mark given to him by the Earth Dragon. It symbolized His blessing. And no one but a Chosen of Earth, as Gaia was, can light it. I've been wearing it all my life and I've never seen it do that until now." He gave the Regis a sympathetic smile. "I know this isn't what you wanted, and that you hoped it wouldn't be true, and for the right reasons. You wanted the Elementals united again, as they had been in the Ancient Days. But there are other ways to do that, Regis, ones that won't cost the lives of almost all it's participants. We have to do this right. Please, as one man to another. Don't attack until we've found the Seven and had our shot. We don't want any more lives lost."
The Regis sat down heavily on his throne. "Fine. Go. But I will not wait a second longer than I have to. It may be terrible to send so many to certain doom, but it would be worse if the whole universe were to succum to the UnBeing. The Chosen have failed before, Terramyr. But if that happens this time.... I shudder to think of what will happen. I'm giving you this chance, not just because I have to, but because you are our best chance. Do not fail, Terramyr. History will not forgive you." He turned to Alerea. "And you. I don't know how you'll do it, but you'll escape again and follow him, I know it. So I won't stop you, and I won't send the Four Guards to bring you back. Just remember to come and visit us everyonce in a while, and be safe."
Alerea nodded to her father and then gave him a hug. Sperrit smiled and took Alerea's hand in his own. "Thank you, Regis. We will not fail."
The two left the tower and walked out of the palace, going to the remote parts of the sky, turning into birds and flying off together, back home.
All the while the Regis stood in his throne room, looking out the window, his eyes clouded over with thought. "Perhaps, young ones, it will be your love that will save us all."
This story is continued in the last post of The End? in the Fanworks section and is then continued in the various adventures of The Chosen, four of whom are already revealed: Musashi, Chosen of Time, Reverend, Chosen of Light, Sakura, Chosen of Wind, and Sperrit, Chosen of Earth. I hope you all enjoyed this. Thank you for reading.
