When I bought my booster I ended up getting Elendril. Ive been working with it since and it plays well. I was kinda hoping for a turtle mount because that would just kick ass. *shurgs* No turtle, but still a fun game. ^_^

Hehe you and the rest of the world wanting the turtle mount. If not for the fact you get a kickass mount for your character, then you get a card thats $60 or over on the market.

horrible mount. It's walking speed. Not 60%, not sprinting, not even running. I repeast, the turtle moves at walking speed.

As far as I knew, all the upgrades you could get as a result of the TCG were strictly cosmetic, so that would make sense that the turtle offers nothing to you but the fact that it is a turtle.

At any rate, I've been getting my packs at Toys R Us lately because they seemed to have a decent sized supply, and because they had them at MSRP, and because it seemed as if I was the only person to know about them being in stock there. However, I went in there last night, and discovered that not only had someone discovered my stash, but they cleaned the place out! I was not a happy camper. Oh well...like I said, if you find them, Toys R Us is a good place to get cards.

So I just finished playing in my first Warcraft TCG tourney at my local game shop. Unfortunately, only 5 people showed up, but the store owner STILL put up a box for a prize like he said he would, which was awesome. And since this was an official Hobby League Beta tournament, there were cool promo cards (Torek's Assault for everyone, Latro Abiectus for top 8, and Mezzik Darkspark for 1st) The winner also got a certificate for free entry into Regionals, which are being held in various locations on Saturday, January 13.

All in all, it was REALLY fun. While I didn't win, I did come in second, and got 8 packs for my effort, which was very nice indeed! In case you were wondering what I was playing...I decided to try out melting faces with Omedus the Punisher. I gotta say...he's a scary hero to go up against. The only deck I lost to was a nearly fully powered Hunter deck (that ended up winning the tourney)...and even then I really held my own.

I'm pretty much set on going to my local Regionals next week, but I don't think I'll be playing in the main event because I don't feel like spending the money to fully trick-out my deck right now. Instead, I think I'm going to play in the Lazy Peon event. Lazy Peon is an officially sanctioned format where your deck cannot contain Rare or Epic cards, and you play one game matches. The fact that UDE decided to make an official budget format, complete with it's own tournaments and prize support, says a lot about how much they want people to just get into the game and play. I, for one, commend them on it.

THIS is what integrity is all about. I've always said that card games deteriorate into "whoever has the biggest bankroll, wins" and that's a reason I have stopped playing. Something like this should foster different ideas and maybe even give the truly skilled players a chance to shine. My thought is that if you have more "rare" cards than anything else...then they aren't rare, are they?

Ok, so I've been playing the game and tinkering around with it a lot recently. I've determined that Lazy Peon (the sactioned budget format) is the greatest idea ever, and a hell of a lot of fun. Tobs, Rev, and I attended our local Regionals a few weeks ago just to play in the Lazy Peon Challenge they were offering, and we all had a blast. I came in 2nd, Rev came in 3rd, which is not bad at all for someone who literally picked the game up a few days earlier. At any rate, I've been working on some decks that I wanted to share with everyone. They're all Lazy Peon legal (no rares or epics), so if anyone wants to try any of these out, the cards should be pretty easy to get together. These also serve as a good foundation for regular decks, should you decide you wanted to add some more money to them.

Omedus the Punisher (Horde Priest)

4 Confessor Mildred
4 Mias the Putrid
4 Guardian Steelhorn
4 Taz'dingo
3 Ophelia Barrows
3 Hierophant Caydiem
3 Zygore Bladebreaker
2 Kulan Earthguard

4 Chastise
4 Mind Spike
4 Shadow Word: Pain
3 Vanquish

2 Chromatic Cloak

4 Torek's Assault
4 It's a Secret to Everybody
4 Kibler's Exotic Pets
3 Chasing A-Me 01
1 In Dreams

I played a deck very similar to this to a 2nd place finish at a Regionals qualifier. Even though the version I played had rares, it only had 4 of them. Even without rare cards, this deck is very strong.

Grennan Stormspeaker (Horde Shaman)

4 Brigg
4 Guardian Steelhorn
4 Taz'dingo
3 Vesh'ral
4 Hierophant Caydiem
3 Kulan Earthguard
2 Zygore Bladebreaker

4 Searing Totem
4 Frost Shock
4 Lightning Bolt
2 Ghost Wolf

3 Annihilator
3 Draconian Deflector

4 Torek's Assault
3 Chasing A-Me 01
3 Counterattack!
3 It's a Secret to Everybody
3 Kibler's Exotic Pets
1 For the Horde!

Tobs played this at Regionals. It's a bit slow, but it's a very versatile deck.

Dizdemona (Alliance Warlock)

4 Apprentice Teep
4 Latro Abiectus
4 Parvink
4 Sarmoth
3 Moira Darkheart
3 Acolyte Demia
3 Lafiel

4 Life Tap
4 Steal Essence
4 Shadow Bolt
3 Sever the Cord
3 Vanquish

4 Chasing A-Me 01
4 The Defias Brotherhood
4 Kibler's Exotic Pets
3 Are We There, Yeti?
2 The Missing Diplomat

Warlock decks are the IN control deck right now. Like the Omedus deck above, this deck is very strong even without rares, and doesn't take too many of them to break it into mainstream play. I played this deck at Regionals and came in 2nd in Lazy Peon.

Graccus (Alliance Paladin)

4 Parvink

4 Blessing of Might
4 Holy Light
4 Touched by Light
4 Hammer of Justice
4 Seal of Light
3 Cleanse

4 Krol Blade
4 Annihilator
3 Draconian Deflector
3 Golem Skull Helm
3 Truesilver Breastplate
2 Edgemaster’s Handguards
2 Hide of the Wild

4 Zapped Giants
4 Big Game Hunter
3 Sunken Treasure
1 Blueleaf Tubers

This was an experimental deck that we did some research on and created for Rev to play at Regionals. The deck proved to be very strong, and took Rev to a 3rd place finish, despite him having learned the game only a few days earlier. I actually wrote an article about this deck and Rev's performace at Regionals for StarCityWoW.com. It hasn't been published yet, but I'll let everyone know when it is in case you're interested in this deck.

So that's it for now. I thought I had some Hunter decks finished to post (both Alliance and Horde), but I was mistaken. I'll finish them up soon and post them, as Hunter decks are considered to be the best aggressive decks in the game right now. The regular versions (particularly the Alliance version) are very expensive to put together because they use high cost rares and epics. However they don't use that many of them, so the deck doesn't lose that much making the transition into a budget format.

Sorry for the double post. But as promised, here's a set of budget Hunter decks:

Elendril (Alliance Hunter)

4 Apprentice Teep
4 Kryton Barleybeard
4 Bloodclaw
4 Latro Abiectus
4 Parvink
4 Sha’lin Nightwind
3 Mezzik Darkspark
3 Moira Darkheart
2 Tracker Gallen

4 Arcane Shot
4 Ravenous Bite

4 Krol Blade

4 The Defias Brotherhood
4 Chasing A-Me 01
4 Into the Maw of Madness
4 Kibler’s Exotic Pets

Sen’zir Beastwalker (Horde Hunter)

4 Bloodclaw
4 Taz’dingo
4 Vesh’ral
3 Gartok Skullsplitter
3 Kagra of the Crossroads
3 Moko Hunts-at-Dawn
3 Voss Treebender
2 Confessor Mildred
2 Elder Moorf
2 Hur Shieldsmasher
2 Karkas Deathhowl

4 Arcane Shot
4 Ravenous Bite

4 Krol Blade

4 Torek’s Assault
4 Chasing A-Me 01
4 Into the Maw of Madness
4 Kibler’s Exotic Pets

These decks are really straight-forward. Play cheap guys, attack. Repeat until opponent is dead. The fully powered versions are the fastest decks in competitive play, but can get expensive. Ironically though, these versions aren’t too far off from the normal versions. If you wanted to add some money to these, I would say first invest in a set of Fury, as he’s played in both versions.

Just a head's up, I wrote an article for StarCityWoW.com about the Paladin deck that I menitoned in a previous post. I'd love it if you guys checked it out if you get the chance and tell me what you think.

Here's a link:

The Slow Road to Victory

Thanks!
