You know you are getting older when you knowingly take on more responsibility. You would think that much like the logic in certain classes of role-playing that some common sense (COMIC ALERT) would be applied to the ways of purchasing your first home.

Well I can tell you from the first hand experience, that ain't the truth! From the time you decide to make such a venture in your life, to tra-la-la-ing across many different neighborhoods and bouncing your eyeballs over the largest loans you will ever get, your brain will be mush. I don't think I have ever felt so out of the loop.

Yes, yours truly is getting her very first house. Amongst the excitement and the best laid plans for making a house our very, very own the nail biting, brow sweating fear of that next big step in life just keeps nagging at me. And just when I am about to cash in my chips to live the rest of my life renting a place (oh good lord, folks, don't do it to yourself) I come home and see the fuzzy little pooch's face and know in my heart she really deserves a house and yard to run around in. I look at the hubby and realize he needs a big man pit to sprawl out in and geek up with computer goodies. I realize that listening to the upstairs neighbors and their lumberjack snoring and lead foot trapsing just doesn't cut it at 2am anymore. I'm about to boldly go where this Doot has not gone before, and for all the craziness I feel that comes along with it, I'm just happy I'll have a place that's really my own.

I've been here for about a year now and just try not to think about where my money goes...but you do earn equity...though over-rated in my book.

It does at least feel good to own your own home though...makes things a lot easier and you gain that extra step on the respectability scale..."Are you a homeowner?" "Why, yes I am." "Excellent! You qualify as a responsible adult, tell her what she's won!" lol

I had to jump through a bazillion hoops to get approved but I finally did after several screaming matches w/ my mortgage guy...was really stressful but I can at least laugh about it now...one guy in Minnesota being screamed at by 2 Atlanta women at the same time over having to prove I pay my cell phone bill via auto-deduct.

Congratulations on having obtained enough to buy a house, Doot. Hopefully, it all comes through in the end and you get a good deal on it. Big decision, but you get to decorate it any way you like!
