Funny On South Park
Not in real life
So this begs the question, when do you take away the keys. Fact is a car is a 1,000+ pound death machine. In a nation where being able to drive is pretty much necsisary to survive, especially outside of major cities where mass transit is availible, How do you take the keys without taking thier livelyhood.
Personaly I think the drivers test should be like 20x harder than it is, and you should have to take it more often. Mine when i turned 16 consited of ok turn out here...Stop at this light...Turn here....Pull into this driveway and do a turnabout...ok you passed |

At least you got the field test version. I had to do the stupid parking lot course. Trying to parallel park between orange cones does NOT equate to thereal thing!
And yes, you should have to do a roadtest more than once in your life. I think it should happen maybe every other time you renew you license.
My grandma, who's 83, is still a pretty good driver. She just has vision problems which is kind of a key thing when driving. I haven't beenin the car w/ her driving in quite a while though.
She did put a nice sized hole in the side of the garage though! We recently found that by accident. lol
I haven't encountered that many annoying elderly drivers lately...its the group of immigrants around here that drive below the speed limit that irk me....putt, putt, putt down the street when I need to get to work. Put the pedal to the metal, man! |

My experience with elderly drivers has been that they either drive too fast/recklessly, or they drive too slow. There is nothing in between. Although, most that I have encountered have been in the latter category.
I agree that you should have to take the drivers test every so often to make sure you are still capable of handling a car. I think that they should instate a testing schedule that would resemble a reverse bell-curve. When you're younger, you have to test every year or so. As you increase in age, the testing becomes less frequent, and then when you hit a certain age, say 60-65, you start testing more often again. |

Ive alwyas said the test should be harder AND more frequent, from the minute I took it. I didnt even HAVE to do a road "test", we just kinda drove around a bit on normal roads. Just imagine the cost of doing ANOTHER test on the entire driving population though. Gas, vehicle maintainence, incurance costs alone would be nutzzorz. |

when you renew in GA, they pretty much just check your vision and that's it.
I remember going to renew mine, and this old woman was infront of me, and they asked her where the flashing red light was... her response was "what flashing red light?"
Yeah... definatly need to take the test again! |

This is slightly off topic, but...since moving to Florida, I can't describe how amazingly bad the drivers are here...and not just the old ones! This post reminded me of that fact. |
