Well as many of you know I have (or had I'll explain) two jobs. I am a parapro and a youth pastor. I got a call today from my pastor that we needed to met so I was like ok. So I go and he tells me that I'm being released and here's the kicker, he never gives me a real reason why he's letting me go. Something about not going to right direction or something and not following up or something. He pretties it up by saying he'll give me the chance to resign. Oh thanks a bunch. To be honest,I just don't know about Youth ministry anymore. It was always my dream to be a youth minster. I always believed it was where I was suppose to be but now I'm really unsure. I mean I've been a youth minster twice now and it doesn't matter how hard you try how much effort you put into it when they are "done" with you, you get cast aside like a freaking used tissue. They don't have to tell you why, they just have to tell you that it is over. All your hard work down the freaking toilet because you made the wrong self righteous family mad at you or some other crap like that. I'm just sick of it. You give you heart , soul, blood ,sweat and tears and then one day it's like oh sorry you didn't "quite" do as we would have liked you to do so better luck next time. You give and you giver and you get nothing in return and yet you come back day after day after day and your happy because you are serving your Church but they just don't care about any of that. Don't get me wrong I'm not bashing my religion or my Church but I'm just tired of being the one who gets thrown under the bus the moment anything goes wrong. Nobody thinks oh maybe we should support the youth pastor. Maybe we should help instead of whining and crying about every little thing. What a freaking concept. No they don't do that. They'd rather blame me for everything and get rid of me. Well to quote the late and great Richard Nixon, "They won't have Richard Nixon to kick around anymore." Well I'm tired of being the parents doormat and I won't be anymore. After I say good bye to my youth next Wednesday, I'm gone. From there who knows. In a way, I almost glad it's over but in a way I'm also so sick I could throw up. Then there's being a parapro another thankless job. I'll say this much. It breaks my heart how some of these parents treat their kids and don't take care of them and then try to blame us when something goes wrong. I've got a kid that just got out of the hospital because his mom didn't care enough to get him taken care of. You grow close to these kids and I will not stand by and watch them die because their parents are too greedy, selfish, and lazy to take care of their kids. Sounds like i need a job change...well at least one of those was taken care of I guess. |

Wow... that's pretty crappy.
I don't know from personal experience, but I know from talking with others that any job where you work with children is hard b/c you get ... fond... of them and then you see the bad parents and you can't say anything.
But yeah, the fact that they let you go like that and gave you no rhyme or reason about it is pretty shitty.
I would not give up on it altogether though man. If this is your passion, I think you should stick to it. However, maybe it's time to take a break for a bit. |

I'm really sorry to hear about this Kurry. I hate how any employer, no matter what the field, seem to fall back on the "I'm the boss and I say so" line.
I'm both surprised and yet not by the fact that the church pulled the same sort of thing. If they actually gave you the option to resign, then it sounds like it may be something serious that you need, no...deserve to know about.
It could be nothing, to where you're just not living up to what standards they think you should be at...or it could be something more serious where a parent has complained about something that you may not have even done...and they're trying to keep it quiet by just letting you go. Whatever the case, I would ask for an explanation, you might want to spin it in the direction of getting them to give you advice on how to better yourself if they won't give you a straight answer. |

Man that is pretty shitty. What's a parapro, btw? I personally just remember one really great youth pastor, which was ages ago... at least 10 years ago. I had a buddy in the military who was one, probably for a fairly small church, and frankly, because I knew the kind of guy he was at work, I was really surprised that he could do it. For one because he was selfish, but really he was just a skeez. Like, he had really hideous choices on tattoos... one was "55psi" and the graphic of a tire nozzle on his arm, so he could "pump it up" LOL. You of course don't nearly as dumb, but in general I would say that there are a lot of politics in church, and it really sucks when you want to be a servant leader and be an example of a good person, and get fired for probably some purely political reason. I bet the pastor's fishing buddy wanted the job or something. Just go where the need is, don't let 'em slow you down. |
