I figured after my encounter with a complete IDIOT at my first day of training I needed to open a thread here for everyone's encounters with the stupid at work. And I'll be bringing more bits from training, I'm sure. The woman from today guarantees it.

The IT guy came in to show us how to log in to teh computers, show us how to do things on our systems, all that good stuff. As he is explaining/showing us how to send a request for tech assistance, he has somethign with teh following on teh projection thingiewhatsit. (yes, I copied it down)

1. Reboot
2. Try again.
3. Get screen shot if possible.
4. Make note of what caused error.
5. em,ail screen shot and notes to awesometechguys@company.com
6. If this is a job stopper contact blah blah blah IT tech guys' numbers and email addresses

This woman from teh back, who had earlier admitted she didn't even know how to dial a cell phone (she had ot have someone else dial for her) raised her hand and said that she was lost between steps 3 and 4. Now mind you, the IT guy had already shown us exactly how to take a screenshot, how to paste said screen shot into Word, and how to email it as an attachment. What was her issue then? She didn't realize she had to OPEN WORD. So, by teh time she was done with her questions, the list on the screen was

1. Reboot.
2. Try task again.
3. Get screen shot if possible by pressing Alt + Print Screen
4. Open Word.
5. Paste screenshot into Word by pressing Ctrl + V
6. Hit File > Send To > Mail Recipient (as attachment)
7. Make notes in email about what you were doing when the error occured.
8. Type awesometechguys@company.com into teh "To" field of email.
9. Hit send.
10. If this is a job stopper contact blah blah blah yadda yadda AFTER sending email to awesometechguys@company.com to enter it into the queue.

He also asked her if he needed to add "Breathe" in there anywhere. She didn't seem thrilled by that. During this time, my newfound friend and fellow temp and I were IMing each other using the Windows messenger that was already set up and logged on for each person at their computer. We also had the intelligence to mute our systems, so if we decided to do somethign silly like IM during a teachign point, we wouldn't be caught. The girls right behind us weren't that smart.

-.-

This is gonna be a long three weeks.

No, sadly they're cramming three tons of info into a three week training course to answer phones about sales and service for the local phone company. We were told yesterday also that there may be a fourth week, depending on hwo everyone is doing.

So I expect to have a fourth week because of the stupid people I will be working with. All three of us who were hired through teh temp agency already have our desktops set up with everything, like shortcuts, out background, favorites, email, the "company use" IMing (we have no access to outside of the company, my partner tried). So of course we weren't paying attention whenever the IT guy went to a new subject, but since he had to repeat everythign at least four or five times, we caught on soon enough.

-.-

Let's see how today goes. We're reviewing our products today.

lol reminds me of the time that Doot and I were sitting through training when we first started at Cox, and the tech guy was explaining about "Hyperlinks" and stuff....we totally thought he was a noob before noob was even popular =P

Yay for stupid people! Without them, I wouldnt have endless amounts of amusement all day long. <3 Howard Stern for pointing them out to me.

Yeah. I've encountered many a person like that. Most of them came from the Info Systems classes I had to take in college. It's like, "Why are you in the advanced class if you don't know how to use a mouse?"

I guess it's only strange to us because we live in a world where computers are EVERYTHING. It's odd to see someone who chose to shut themselves out and not get even a bit accustomed to using technology. In my mind, it's really just laziness. My parents got my 85 year old grandfather (who speaks broken English) a cell phone so that he can call us for free if he ever needs anything, and he's basically a pro at using it now.

While I agree that stupid people in the work place can be annoying, its really not so bad if they are coworkers and not management. I just think of them as job security Twisted Evil

:cringe:

At least that manager handled it correctly...and yeah, you have to set your Step-Action tables to meet the lowest common denominator, IOW, that woman.

Keep an eye out for her though...its the stupid ones that come back to bite you in the end.

So, she still hasn't gotten any better. She still doesn't know that "click" means "left-click" and "right-click" means "right-click". She's had it explained to her three of four different times. At least. She didn't know where to type an address into the IE window.

And she somehow managed to finish the quiz we had today that included searchign for stuff on three different websites before other people. I think she cheated, just because I know at least a few people did in fact cheat. Hell, we temps cheated, and we're in teh front row. I found the glossary page on teh company website, the girl beside me saw it, and kinda mumbled to teh guy on the other side of her. To be fair, we were old to use our computers for it, "use the technology at your fingertips" was the exact phrase. So if he still didn't get it with her mumbling, she could've just emailed it to him. Or IMed it to him, since he also has his sound muted.

Aaaaand the girl behind me still has't learned that IMing after the instructor says not to is a bad idea. Just because she was hired as a permanent employee doesn't mean she is immune to canning.

Speaking of temp vs permanent, the woman in front of Anti-Tech asked in the snootiest tone today "Why do we NEED techs anyway?" like we're beneath her. All three of us were hired to fill the class, and fill the cubicles at teh call center after three other people dropped out. We were hired through a temp agency because our resumes were already screened, we had already passed background checks, and ONLY those who would be good were sent for interviews. Seven of us went, three of us were selected. We have to stay temp for 90 days, at which point teh company can hire us permanent because of a contract with teh temp agency. They are still the ones paying us, but they are doing it through the temp agency, and so we're not technically their employees.

So the three of us, who have stations in teh training room without phones because they were the last tree set up have determined that "temp" is a derogatory remark.

SO, today, third day of training. Miss Word-deficient decided to go on for ten minutes on why she likes our CEO. Somethign about how he seems approachable and such. Then teh woman in front of her starts going on that she lieks him because of the shirt he was wearing in the video thign we watched. Okie Dokie then.

Big stupid moment of the day? When the newer of the two instructors (who has been taking notes because before too long they're setting her off on her own) had to stand up and for the second day in a row tell us NOT TO PLAY SOLITAIRE when someone is talking. Seriously. She also had to remind everyone to be on the pages we were working on. If you were to sit in the second row, you could watch teh temps all see a notification for email come up, alt+tab to it, glance to see if it was important, and alt+tab back, all within about ten seconds.

The girl behind me was STILL IMing. What was great was when the instructor stepped on a cord, somethign pinched or something (or the power strip chose that moment to die), and so the second and third rows lost power. Even if the power strip on teh front went out, I'd still have power to my computer, because my computer is the only one in teh room plugged straight into teh wall. Because we're so close to teh front of the room though, she doesn't walk in front of us. So only teh first and fourth rows were running. We had to go kidnap the webmaster guy to get power to the rest properly.

And SOMEHOW we are ahead of schedule slightly.
