Eh. It was okay. Everyone knows I'm up for a good bloodbath, but it's really much more exciting when you're involved (IE: video game) than when you're just watching it. I enjoy most other violent movies because they have plot. This one only barely squeaked one in.

Yeah, it was rather pretty, but if it weren't for the fact that my Faramir (AKA Dave Wenham) was in it, I probably would've been a little bored with it.

No offense to either of you guys, but I think you're missing the point entirely. This movie isn't supposed to more than what you pretty much see at face value. If you're not into movies like that, that's fine. But it's important not to mis-classify this as something that it's not.

I've noticed that the majority of complaints about 300 are basically people missing it's point. It's NOT supposed to be plot driven. It's NOT supposed to be intellectual. And it's NOT a history lesson. It's visually stunning, and entertaining. That's pretty much it.

It's also pretty true to the comic, which everyone should probably read before they go see this.

I think most people just don't realize it's based on the comic book not actual historical events.

Er, dude, I -know- it wasn't supposed to be that. I knew that going into it. I didn't -expect- there to be plot, though it would've been nice if there had been. 99% of the reason I went to see this was because I -thought- I'd enjoy a couple hours of plotless violence. But really, it was just sort of boring.

I didn't miss any point. I just didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would, and I'm explaining -why- I didn't enjoy it.

Except that, apparently, it's about 90% historically accurate. Or so the director claims.

I thought it was very intellectually pleasing.

The movie put for the age old addage "Freedom isn't Free" and showed you that in the past people valued freedom over servitude so much. Nowadays people no longer wish to make hard decisions and simply want to coast by letting their governments control all aspects of their lives.

eh, you're either a slave to a Man or to Man's system. The past dominant society valued freedom over servitude, the same way their own enslaved people would have, but since the others were weaker and, in fear of simply being eradicated, they dared not fighting for ''freedom'' because it all came down to ''well, I'm either trying to be free from these dominating people, and inevitably die in the process, or give up on that and actually have a chance to live! ... hmmmm ...'' So you have your nice lil ''alpha-male'' thing going on, but on the level of civilizations.

Spartans had their slaves of their own (known as helots) so ... yes they valued freedom, their freedom, of well, enslaving in their own ways, and not have the ways of others be imposed to them. So the Spartans cherished their values and system which... when you think about it, is not too different from the ''seemingly quite totalitarian'' Persian system.

alright, uh, what was this topic about again?

...

O yeah. I <3 the movie. I'll see it again in IMAX now, seeing as apparently the sound experience IS worth it, and now that I think about it, those who suggested me not to go see it in IMAX aren't usually paying attention to the sound. I'll give it a shot when I'll go see it with my dad! ;D

No reason to take offense. If there had been a plot added to this, however, it would have been completely out of touch with the actual comic, and then all the fanboys would have complained that it deviated from the comic too much. Given that this is a work by Frank Miller, I highly doubt that they would have alienated the fan boys. Besides, it was perfectly fine the way it was.

I agree. I think this is one of the major problems with movies today. A movie gets hyped, and everyone goes in expecting an Oscar winner. And when it's not, then everyone complains that it was a bad movie. When clearly, it wasn't. Not everything has to be a text book example of what film schools would call a "good movie". Not everything needs a complex plot. character development, and dialogue. Honestly, movies are made to entertain. Go in and enjoy them. Don't go in looking to pick them apart.

Technically it has a plot, just not a very deep one. Plus technically the movie is about a single battle so what more plot do you need?
