We've all seen the stupid things stupid people can do in today's public society. For instance, you just need to go into a shopping mall to find at least one instance in which someone managed to grossly miss his aim on a toilet bowl the size of the Olympic Stadium. Or several wads of (often dirty) toilet paper laying about everywhere. Or people trying to ram the door of their classroom in an attempt to get in. Or better yet, people who call the bus driver an "ugly bitch" because she'll refuse to pick up someone who doesn't have the cash to pay his fare.
Now, hold on to your jaw, 'cause it's about to get heavy.
Today, I walk down the stairs to my next subway line. A train is stopped and has closed its doors to take off.
Well, not really...
Two friends had tried to run for the train in an attempt to make an emergency boarding. Security carefully watches the first guy as he managed to slip inside at the very last second... but not before holding his arm out to keep the door from closing.
The doors open and close again and again. The train honks furiously in protest. Security is briefly stunned at the sight of someone actually doing something illegal right in their very faces.
Because let's agree: it's hard not to miss someone dressed in blue and gold with a padded vest, a stick, and radio chatter coming out of his attire.
Then the second buddy makes his appearance. He sprints at full speed towards the honking train, comes to a screeching halt right in front of the held-open doors... and he tries to force them open with his bare hands.
That's when security slowly moved in.
The buddy on the inside retreats his arm in emergency. The buddy on the outside gets a nice ol' little 200$ fine for doing perhaps the least subtle crime in the universe. |

Differant countries = differnt laws, Tobs. Still, we're given schedules of when subways are arriving and leaving for a reason. If a person can't bother themselves to leave with enough time to make it then the train shouldn't be forced to wait on them. |

I think this is less about how 'stupid' saving the train for him was and more about how incredibly stupid it is to break the law right in front of a security dude.
...of course, in GA that happens all the time. We had a marathon thing going on through Roswell a couple weeks ago, and the police had set up around the town in various locations to assure that people wouldn't just jam through the cones or whatever...and there were a couple of guys in one intersection who made illegal turns and stuff...and the cops just STOOD THERE AND WATCHED.
I was pretty livid. I mean, wtf are we paying these guys for? Maybe traffic violations of that scale don't bring as much moola as the guys going 90 on 400 (where it's 55 due to construction 'n stuff) ...but wait, you're not pulling THOSE GUYS OVER EITHER.
Grar.
Just makes me hate driving even more, especially when I got pulled over for speeding up to 15 over (by accident, it was a stressful day, I almost never go more than 5 over) through a light and these jokers are getting away with a lot more than that. |

GA police are a pain in the butt. I see the same stuff as Legend. My normal squabbleis with the bazillions of jaywalkers that I see where the cops do nothing. My oneand only ticket was for a "Red light violation" Giving my car that little extra goose to get through the light in solid traffic---'cept there was a cop behind me. Never did find the definition for that one
One trend I see a lot of is that one cop will have someone pulled over and its like this beakon for all the other cops to come join in. 3 cop cars responding to a fender bender? Or even better,5 cop cars on one guy one night....
Has anyone else noticed to large number of ppl who are just flatout running red lights lately? |

Don't forget the little fiasco that took place right outside my office door on Delk.
On the subject of trains - I remember coming home from the night shift at my last job (so, about 9 in the morning), and a guy was holding the door on the MARTA train at Five Points. The train was ahead of schedule, so they let it slide (he only held it for about ten seconds). Well, we thought they let it slide. At the next stop, two MARTA security officers and two City of Atlanta police step into the train, tap the guy on the shoulder, and calmly walk him out. Seriously. Four guys to walk one guy off who held the door, but they won't even raise a hand against the people who overcrowd trains, who get on when the conductor says "we are full, do not enter the train", or who start screaming complaints if the train goes out of service and they have to get off. |

I actually saw that fender bender happen...when I got my one and only ticket, another cop came in asking if the other needed help (scaring the crap outta me)...and come on, 5 cop cars for 1 guy? I'm not saying that there were not special circumstances...but the ratio at least looks unbalanced to the onlooker.
Not sure which fiasco that was...all I remember was your car getting crunched in the parking lot, where they couldn't do anything. |

funny....the more i see of cops and their responses which seem to be likea roulette wheel or crapshoot in the frequency of logical aplication of the law, the more i lose respect for them and yet i still want to do anything i can to help them battle the dumb, ignorant, and oxygen wasting. |
