Inks and Colors

These are a couple pieces I picked up in here that I used to practice my inking and coloring. I like how the first one came out better.

Jaena..they look so cute! I feel honored that you chose my drawings (there are so many good ones on this site). The lollipop girl is my favorite...I would probably want her as an avvi if I didn't love Foow so much^.^

on the second one (sumire) her shading is a bit flat...but still...good job^.^

Yeah, its obvious you kinda just got bored with the second one. I suggest going back in a few days when your refreshed and taking a second look at it.

The first one is bang on though. Love the background and effects on the lolipops. It all works well together.

If you were to look at my photobucket album that these two are in, you can see the huge progression I've made in coloring recently. CK pointing me to a different style helped a LOT. I just finally got to where I can ink at all decently (these two are my first two personal inkings that I didn't just say forget it and start a new pic on). And my first attempt at the candy land girl inking came out atrocious.

As for why I picked these two, I thought the lollipop girl was ADORABLE, and the other would be a bit more of a challenge for me. Without going TOO detailed right away.

I just have way too much time on my hands these days now that the little one doesn't need my constant attention and my job doesn't have a fluctuating schedule.

Looks good Jaena, glad the tutorials are helping you.

Just for my clarification are you using the Pen tool or the Lasso tool to make your selections? If you're using the Lasso then you will get the little jagginess on your edges like the ones you have now. If you use the Pen tool, you have more control over your curves and the edges will be crisper, unless you feather them or use the anti aliasing.

Don't be afraid to use alot of contrast in your colors too. Especially if you go for basic two-tone cel style. A good example is the new comic that will be out on Friday. I used a high contrast two-tone style thats quick and fairly easy.

Keep on keeping on, you only get better if you keep at it.

Which reminds me, I need to practice that other coloring style some more later tonight.

i actually like the girl with the blade more than the other one...i just feel like the other one is too color-rich.

But im a simple guy, with simple taste. I mean, look at my PO...should explain itself.
