damn it, damn it, damn it, you know what sucks most for me right now. I just don't seem to get it like the others. I know people who can loose a job one minute and be hired somewhere else the next. I know a friend of mine named victor he lost his fed ex job, and the same day got hired somewhere else. Damn it, why do I have the hardest freaking luck ever when it comes to finding another job after being laid off. I've been applying at places, going to interviews, but not a single one said I'm hired. -_-... It always sucks, I finally land a good job, and then i get royally screwed out of it, after that follows weeks or sometimes even months of sulking, and job searching. But I seem to have the worst of luck when it comes to finding another job. But others I know can seem to just go out there and land another one right away.

It really pisses me off, because there are so many things I need and want right now, like a motorcycle for transportation, and an xbox360. And yes the answer is obvious get a job. But it's not that freaking simple for me... I've been trying to get a job for months. Applying online at different places, and checking the want ads constantly. And yet i have friends who can go out in a day and land the job they want on the first try?! And then they say to me "Your not trying hard enough..."

HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT TO ME!!!!! I HAVE ALL THE NERVE TO CRACK OPEN THAT HEAD OF YOURS LIKE A FARM FRESH EGG AND SCRAMBLE YOUR STUPID BRAINS!!! *snaps pen while trying to fill out application* (pisses me off, pisses me off, pisses me off!)

Can anyone else relate here?

All this coming from a man who wants and has wanted to settle down since he was fifteen and have a family.

I've never had a problem getting a job, because most of the time I've got either A) My mom backing up my skillz/abilities (like the daycare center) or B) I've been to the place so many times the people in charge already know me and like me (like Suncoast and the Vet clinic I worked for)
d

However, these are the things I hear most from people who really know about job-hunting. XD

Do you follow up? That is, call them again after the interview? Stop by and see how things are going? Before they call you, call them.

Also, be -really- enthusiastic and sell yourself. I don't know if you do already or whatever, but make you have to make it seem like you would -adore- the job and you're -really- suited to it. It doesn't matter if it's just a job to have one, they want to think you might stick around.

Are you looking in the right places? If you have skills, look for a place that uses those skills. If you don't have any -particular- skills, or not enough experience with them to make a difference or whatever, look places that -really- need people. If you're good with kids, I know Daycare Centers are nearly -always- strapped for teachers. It's a high-stress job, but it'd be something you could do until you get something else. And you don't have to have any teaching experience or whatever. Babysitting experience and First Aid is nice, but not required. Just be enthusiastic about kids, and make sure they know you're willing to do your best.

Flexibility is really good too. If you're not doing anything else, it's really nice to let them know you'd be available in a pinch, that sort of thing. People who are willing to work weekends are often in high demand, though I know for Daycare it's actually people who are willing to work 'til close that are more needed than anything else.

Do your research. Know something about the company before you go in. If you can discuss intelligently with them things about their company, know the name of the hirer, etc, that makes it seem even more like you really really want the job, right?

And in the end, JUST KEEP TRYING! ^^ You can do it!

Some of us are getting advanced degrees and having trouble finding a job, so you're not alone in this.

I just hate how some of my friends can land a good job their first day.
and then have the nerve to say I'm not trying hard enough.

"YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW THE MEANING OF THE WORD TRY YOU IDIOT, ALL YOU DO IS WALK IN AND YOU GET THE JOB. YOU CALL THAT TRYING?! LIVE IN MY SHOES FOR A DAY!!" DX

A lot of it has to do with being at the right place at the right time. Dloe gets job leads from his professors...granted, he still needs a new job but he's still got some to follow up with.

It also depends on the job you're looking for and the demand for work.

I landed in corporate after my second try with the company that my mom's friend hooked me up with. I didn't get the job she set me up for, but I did get one later in a new group...I kinda caught the director's attention when I applied for 5 different postions in her new group.

Like Legend said, attitude is a big thing too. Employers maybe don't want someone uber sweet and excited, but they do want to think that you want the job...don't tell them you've been unemployed for 7 months either, let them figure it out. If they ask, say you were taking some time off.

You might also want to take a look at who you have listed as references...they might be doing you in.

Ask those friends to set up a "mock" interview for you at one of the places you have applied. Have them be the interviewer and ask you poignant questions that they have received from interviews. Allow them to constructively criticize your interviewing skills. Take pointers and use them the next time. Apply EVERYWHERE! A No is one more step closer to a yes. Hit the pavement hard and scope out more opportunities. Even if you get a job that you don't see yourself staying at, it'll be easier to find another one from it.

I had lost my job at a video game store due to it closing down and we all received severence pay - very minimal. I took up waiting tables until I landed the job I have now, which I've been at for 7 and a half years.

Also, make sure your resume looks professional, polished and clean. Even if you are filling out an application to flip burgers, attaching a resume of previous work experience is darned impressive and worth the second look.

Heh, I have a resume, and I take it to my interviews. as of right now I'm working with a temp agency to find a job. Hopefully if I keep calling they'll land something, and I'll grab it.

My mom, got on my case again today, she says "anyone can get out and work!" I said "oh yeah hot shot then how come I've been stressing my ass off filling out applications and going to interviews. And can't seem to land shit."

If I had a daller for every application and interview I've done and went to in the last 6 months I'd be a millionaire
