My first ticket... :/ Wow...

So today I was heading back to school from my house (from Alpharetta -- North of Atlanta -- to Athens -- East of Atlanta) and I am driving on 316. It's two lanes both ways, and generally 65 mph. So I'm going along at 84 because I need to get to my advisement for next semester in 40 minutes -- traffic was heavier than usual on 120 going to 316. On 316 it was quite light.

I am getting closer to Athens and do not see a sign marking the change to the 55 mph zone. Immediately as I pass by this sign, a state trooper comes out and pulls me over. Gives me the ticket for the 84 in 55 as opposed to the 65. He claims there was "medium" traffic, which I don't agree with: If there were medium traffic, I'd have to be jockeying to go 84.

Anyway, I'm really frustrated with this. Because I am under 21, this 4 point offense will potentially take away my driver's license for 6 months. I've already talked to my older brother about it. I'll call my mom tonight.

Right now this is my plan:

-Sign up and take a defensive driving course
-Pass said defensive driving course
-Call up the courthouse afterward and speak to a solicitor
-See of a guilty or nolo plea deal could be made available
-Go to court date
(-Ask judge for plea deal options if solicitor cannot make the decision)

This is a very bad Monday...

a 4 point offense you don't lose your licence unless they changed the law. It's 5 and 6 point offense that you automatically lose it.

In that case I believe they may have changed it. I've looked online at a few places, the one or two places I have read about the point system and revoking licenses they mention 4 points for U21

Sadly, its when the traffic is lighter, that you're more likely to get caught speeding. Otherwise, you're just keeping up with the traffic.

I've heard the roads to Athens are filled with speed traps like this.

Cops will say medium traffic no matter what it looks like...my first ticket was in bumper to bumper traffic and they listed the same thing...its still a running joke that I violated a red light....not run it. that was the charge LoL
