Something I read said that the average person will NOT make up the money that they spend on a hybrid because of the money they save on gas. Not that it matters...again, when people start to finally realize that they're hybrids aren't really saving them anything, they'll complain, and the manufacturers will claim that they made hybrids for environmental reasons, NOT to save people money. And they'll get away with their scam. Then excuse themselves because they have more SUVs to attend to.

Exactly, the point of hybrids isn't milage but emissions, you might get one maybe 2 miles better but like thats really gunna matter.

I once read something that said car manufacturers only make hybrids because for each hybrid they make, they can justify making 2 more SUVs.

My other problem with hybrids is....what happens when yours breaks down? What mechanics do you think know how to fix them? That's right...none. You're forced to bring it to the dealer who can, at that point, charge you whatever the hell they want to fix it, because you have no other options.

Actually, the effectiveness of a hybrid depends on the car. The Prius, for example, has been proven time and again by consumer groups such as consumer reports to perform better and be more conserving on fuels that the average car.

Other manufactureres have discovered that the hybrid engine allows for faster acceleration, thus using the engine to improve permormance as opposed to fuel economy. That, and they are also able to market to a group that looks for fuel economy. These people are being scammed for sure. Thus proving that one should always do their research before throwing good money after bad.

And I do recall mentioning that you won't make back the innitial cost output. But hey, you never know the way gas prices keep going up!

And just as an FYI, I have seen my mechanic work on these vehicles. He is AAA certified with a perfect record. He has all his certs in place and I would trust him with my mode of transport issues over just about anyone in the world.

We were watching a show on one of the education channels the other day that had a story about fuel alternatives. One of the groups was actually from a depressed economy area and had modifed a vehicle to perform running on vegetable oil. With modification, the vechilce out-preforms many new cars today. They are currently procurring the hybrid system to add to this vehicle and are expecting great improvement above what has already been done with the alternate fuel. I am interested in seeing the results!

Funny that we're all talking about hybrids....

My company just launched a global effort to become more efficient and operate in a manner that is better for the environment, cut down on energy usage, etc. Ironically, I just got an e-mail from HR that the company is now offering us incentives if we purchase a hybrid vehicle.

oh and if you really wanna get cheap on gas or environmentally friendly do biodeisel. costs about $0.70 a gallon and takes about 12 hrs to make (4 of which you have to be there for.) and hope you don't mind the smell

Geez...the lowest price in my area is $3.12. The highest is $3.45!!
