I think that the Greens would eventually form interest groups that were accepted, at least in part, by the other colors. Once Green lost voting power, it would lose, essentially, its aura of superiority. No longer would there be Green judges and juries sentencing Blue people to jail; no longer would the Blue's turn on the TV and see Green politicians leading the country; no longer could it be perceived as the Green man's law.

Now the Green would be at the mercy of the Red voters and the Red legislation. Now the Green and the Red would have something in common. It would not be a quick event, but eventually the Green and Blue would come to be strange bedfellows, sharing a common theme of minority status.

As for the labels discussion, I believe lables derive from the fact that we're sort of clanish creatures. We enjoy those like us and feel secure with our own kind. This is of course, in general and not impermiable to all occurances.

As long as we feel the separation it will be there. Whitey is right. Identification is the factor that keeps us grouped. Judgment is an assessment of other's identification(s). Geeks dress alike. Jocks dress alike. Reds listen to music dominated by accordians. And green's music all has an incessant high hat rhythm. Blues, well, the picture is clear by now I'm sure... but the point is, soon, the lines of identification are drawn on the outside. People give off the color that they most identify with as a stereotypical appearance. Past this, color becomes just a target market. What you identify with becomes your pricetag. If you're "red" you'll probably buy a lot of stuff on Cinco De Mayo so beer ads around that time or in those neighborhoods have a "red" appeal etc... It's all capitalism. It's all dollars and marketing sense.

But eventually, in my opinion it will all come down to cultures. People already cross cultural lines by dressing and acting "outside of their color" because that other color has something that appeals to them, something positive that they want to be a part of. People will intermingle so much there will be only one color left with the occasional mutation of 'lighter' coming out. The governments and religions will fuse and become amalgams that will function with the will of the new 'whole-earth' race. This may sound like science fiction but ths only thing(s) standing in the way of this happening is ignorance. People are scared of this kind of future because they feel it means the death of their so-called individuality and the things that they identify with, the things they love to "be": their culture, their religion, their country, their beliefs, etc... But, in my eyes, this is an advancement that will make the world look past outward stereotypes and consider what the true definition of "people" is meant to be. When you see that other person you will see a product of the same process of evolution that resulted in your life. The only lines that will be left are the arbitrary ones of money and social status and then, and most likely only then will we as people be best equipped mentally to tear those walls down as well and care for each other as we should. No pricetags, no marketing, just human beings.

Peace is possible.
REY

And here in lies the problem. We speak of masses of people immigrating in to the country, but does that necessarily mean that they have been given the priviledge to vote? I think that the dominant group, keeping in mind that they hold political power, could withhold that right from the incoming groups by maintaining that they aren't true citizens. And here in lies the problem. How do you shift power away from those who maintain in when they will do anything to keep it?

Break the monopoly. Put out a software that is both better and cheaper to make than windows(Read: Not Vista). Then, and here's the clincher, market it right. After that it's just a matter of survival until the masses realize that you are, in fact, better than, for example, Microsoft, and then the monopoly will fall, and whether or not you choose to catch it is basically up to you.

Dominance can only be maintained for as long as everyone else lets you keep it.

If we're going to blow off this veil of colors, and call a pot, a pot...Our constitution will give the immigrants power. The first generation I'll give you, won't be the direct benefactors of this power, but their children, if born in the US, are natural born citizens. They have the right to vote, and should they choose to exercise it, will take away the power of the powerful. This isn't going to happen over night I can't imagine, though I think you'll see it before you die.

Perhaps when and if that happens we will be a whole. But these color coding games, and gimmicks is all part of what makes us human to begin with. A friend told me once, "People create stereotypes simply because they have nothing better to do." In some cases such as racism, but after reading some of what Rey wrote, in some cases it is called for. Considering that People have self pride and respect with in their own culture, sexuality, race and color. That if such a thing that Rey is speaking of happens it would take away the peoples pride in their own individuality. In cases such as this where a person has self respect and love for their race, color, sexuality, culture and country. I believe that they are proud to be labeled.

Edit:

In such cases, labeling is acceptable. But in cases where the person is labeled Emo and goth simply by the way they dress. It is uncalled for and inexcusable.

These type of stereotypes are the ones which people create when they have nothing better to do with their time. It is truly sad.

Exactly. This will come about as they are integrated into society and naturalized. The older generations will die off and with them (mostly) their ideals. Because the immigrants will have lived among the future generations they will all have different opinions of themeach other, just as our society today has a different and more positive opinion of african americans. Time and inevitable motion will resolve all outward division.

I would say, that Asians prefer to be called Asian as apposed to yellow, and same for Hispanics.

These color coding games, are merely and nothing more than sick and twisted racist remarks. Or at least sound that way.

Being labeled as Asain, or Hispanic. is the way it's supposed to be,
But yellow, green, red? What the are you trying to pull? Were not colors were people and should be treated as so. Not something you use to paint canvas with. Wink

Well I will put my 2 % in as well, to me even if what shadow is saying comes to be, it still won't rid of color coding, or racism, because people still have their own mind sets and ways of thinking, sometimes it's the way they were raised to think.

And even if it isn't, how they were raised, such events won't have the power OR effect to change how they think towards or of others of a different culture, don't you think?

I believe that color coding is wrong, but fact is that such a thing that has existed for so many years won't perish so easily, with such an event. It will more than likely continue. Cause like I said, it's the way some people choose to think, and even though events can have an effect. It all depends on the person. So there is a huge possibility that it will - no it will indefinitely still happen.
