Because the thirty minutes in between classes are my most creative periods of the day, Noggy brings to you an Enemy Alliance Production...
Pocket Otaku: Trading Card Game
The Set Up: Based off of the PO Battle System, players take their favorite POs into battle at the Chibiseum, where POwner decides on the rulings and eventually declares a winner. Even Teams can compete in the battles. Players make use of PO abilities and skills as well as items to put the hurt on their opponents. Only one will leave as the Winner!
Game Play: Players take turns drawing cards in order to defeat their opponent.* A turn follows this order:
Ready Phase: Return Cards in play to the ready position. Collect Poku
Draw Phase: Draw Cards.**
Set Phase: Place Cards into Play.
Battle Phase: Attack/Defend against opponent, use abilites.
React Phase: Play Non-Character Cards, use abilities."
End Phase: Discard, if necessary, and pass play to next player.
*(Winning the game is currently undecided. Victory currently lies between two options: Take a Player's HP to 0, Player's POs are KO'd. Since the game is more focused on battling like POBS, at this time, the second option is favored.)
**(Max Hand is 7 Cards)
"(May be removed if it causes play to last too long.)
Starting The Game: Both players shuffle their decks, followed by drawing 7 cards, and collection of 5 Poku for each player. Turn order is decided by coin flip. Whoever wins takes the first turn and enters the draw phase.*
*(Again, since the victory condition is undecided, it is also undecided if players will begin with one PO Character already in play. Since Second option is favored, it is most likely players will start with one PO in play.)
Playing Cards: In this game, cards are put into play using the Miniopian Currency of Poku. By paying the amount of Poku as indicated on each card, a card can then be put into play. At the start of the game each player is given 5 Poku. On following turns, Poku generation is determined by the current Field of play. At the start of the game, the Field is set to "The Chibiseum" and genreates 3 Poku per turn. Poku can be accumulated and carried over to following turns. Poku may also be generated by card effects as well. Each player keeps track of his Poku gain on a seperate piece of paper.
Playing The Game: The first player draws a card and enters the Set Phase, where he can play any card as long as he pays it's Poku cost. During the First Round, (each player taking 1 turn.) the Battle and React Phases are skipped. At the beginning of the second round, players can take part in the Battle Phase. In the Battle Phase, you can attack a player's Character Cards to lower defenses and open up new attack targets.* In the React Phase, you can use abilities & items to perform actions, such as regain HP or change the Field of Play. Finally you go into the End Phase where you can discard excess cards if you need to. Play then goes to the next player.
*(Again, due to Victory Conditions, it has not yet been decided if you can attack a player directly.)
Card Types: The Cards come in Five Basic Categories: Character, Ability, Item, Field, and Society.
Character: Character Cards can be splint into two sub-groups: PO and Supporting Cast.
PO: Pocket Otakus are the main type of characters in the game and represent the strongest fighters in Miniopia. As such players are limited to the number of PO's in their decks.* Each PO card shares three traits: ATK, how hard a character hits; DEF, how tough a character is to hurt; and HP, how much damage a character can recieve before being KO'd. Also, most PO cards have abilities that are specific to them and are displayed on that card. POs can also have special Ability and Item cards that only apply to them.
Supporting Cast: These Character Cards are non-PO characters that can aid POs in battle. As that they are support characters, their HP is always 1, but their ATK and DEF can vary. Some of these cards also have special abilities, but aren't as intense as PO abilities, although they can benefit your entire team.
Character Cards are also sorted by two categories: Side and Type. Side refers to whether a character is good, evil, or neutral. Type refers to the type of fighter a character is, such as musician, ninja, knight, mystic, etc. Characters of the same Side or Type may recieve bonuses when in play together.
*(Currently, at a standard 40 card deck, the limit is 3)
Abilities: Refers to the different fighting abilities different characters have. Some abilities have specialization to certain characters, types, or sides. Other abilities can be used by any character.
EX1: "Mod's Blessing" is a healing ability for good priests. "First Aid" is a healing ability that can be used by all.
EX2: "Zanzibuster!" can be used by any Wrestler type, but Nogrick can use it at half it's Poku Cost due to specialization.
The length an abilitiy remains in play varies from card to card. Some are one time uses while others can be constants. Some constants may even require an upkeep fee to remain in play.
Items: Items are different tools that can be used by characters, including weapons. Like Abilities, items have specialization rules as well, and can also be one time use and constant.
EX1: "Evil Mutton" can only be used by Evil, "Salt Water Taffy" can be used by Good, but "Kilted Ale" can be used by anyone.
EX2: "Dark Blade of Miniopia" can only be used by Doot. "Shuriken" can be used by Ninja types.
Field: Field Cards make it possible to take the battle outside "The Chibiseum" and onto other places that may help or hinder certain characters, or allow for different Poku gains. The current Field nullified by other Field , Ability, or Society Cards.
EX1: "Pow Ting's Dojo" gives a Poku boost to those who have ninja types in play, but a special on time bonus to anyone who has Doot or Shino on the Field.
EX2: "Church of Mod" gives a Poku boost to anyone who has Good characters in play, but a special one time bonus for Reverend.
EX3: "The Western Waters" cuts Poku gain to 1, unless a pirate is in play on your team, which Poku gain is 3.
Society: Society Cards are special cards that can change the rules of the game. As such, these cards have higher costs and turn limitations, but the rewards can be great. The main limitation is that no more that 5 Society Cards can be in play at one time. If someone wished to play another Society Card, the "oldest ruling" is thrown out and replaced by the new card.
EX1: "Farewell to Arms" makes Weapon and Weapon Effects illegal for 4 turns.
Some Ability Cards can also nullify a ruling.
EX2: "Above the Law" lets you ignore 1 ruling for this turn.

Alrighty, folks. That's alls I got for now. There's a lot of details that need to be worked out still, such as numbers for Poku Cost, HP, ATK, DEF, etc., but this is just a rough sketch for the moment. I do have some specific card examples written out, but left those at school, so I'll try to get them up on here by mid week maybe. Also, the things I *'d are workable too, so if you guys have any questions or fixes, let me know. It's something I've been toying around with for a little while, and though it may never actually be a card game, I'd maybe like to use one of those card creator programs to make some of them just for fun. |

If only everyone got why that's as funny as it is.
In hindsight, of course... |

Looks like it would be a playable game. I'd have to have a look at it, and see what costs in relation to income is - if I can't amass enough to play the game I want to, it'll be very frustrating. |

I'd play just so I can utter the phase "And I play the all powerful SHINO!" And then watch as horror spreads across my foe's face! |
