Oh... hmm... then, yeah, I'd say relaxing in a warm place with some warm milk and some warm turkey with some warm lavender and a warm book and you should be set.
Just be careful! Something that powerfully relaxing could knock you out for a couple of days!

LOL with this job, i don't think me be knocked out for a few days would be a problem, but more of a blessing. XD

Yup thats the thing with Insomnia, people are like "well at least you can get the things done that you want to get done" but you can't its literally like being half asleep all day, well just on that point of where your too tired to do anything just before you nod off, but for an entire day or more sometimes.

Turkey has triptophan (sp?) which is a chemical that causes drowsiness, but the turkey should be warm. I would also suggest not doing anything in front of a computer screen for a while, but something relaxing, like take a bath with a good book.

Yeah, I was being a lazy bum and not looking up how to spell the word Triptophan (sp)...milk has it as well.

Hmm...don't look at the computer for a while. I know that tends to get my head racing.

Also, passive human thought tends to help. Finding a sound that you like helps a bit. I know i've always been preferential to the sound of the highway in the backround (i've had it there all my life) and it helps me get my head off of the other woes of life.

the milk and turkey also work...pretty much induce an "Itis" (for those that don't know what that means, go watch The Boondocks) I would say try the lavender or camomille. In fact, if you go to Barnes and Nobles, they have a Tea there that's a Camomille/lavender tea. that should kindof help. It just smells funny, and apparently tastes...interesting.

You should try to learn to meditate and clear the mind. The hardest thing to do is to not think. If you can get your mind in a state of non-thinking, it will give up to you're body and sleep.

Think of you're mind as a subway station hub. All the trains coming in and out are those wandering thoughts you can't seem to stop. Once you learn to stop the trains, you're body will take over and put the brain out. I've had minor bouts of this. Not sleeping for 24+ hours and not feeling like I've slept when I do sleep.

If meditation doesn't work. Go swimming or bike riding. Something physical yet not mind consuming. These both tend to work for me.

He is right; I used to have some mild insomnia, but since I have been on a rigorous daily exercise routine it really hasn't been a problem. The main times it comes back is when I skip a few days work out.

You can always get the book Two Treatise of Government by John Locke which should cure any sleep problems Wink.

In all seriousness, it is most likely the stress and anxiety which is keeping you awake. Generally, something that will reduce that temporarily should get you to sleep if your body's circadian rhythm is not borked.

I typically drink a glass of scotch or congac if I have trouble sleeping, and read something dry.

If your circadian rhythm is out of sync then you either have to ween yourself slowly to a given time, or not sleep for 24 hours then fall asleep at a time that you want (kind of painful, but it works).

Sleep medication can be useful in the short term if the stress is temporary, but can be problematic in the long term since it does not actually resolve the issues that are making you sleepless in the first place.
