The one guy in the article said he was getting two- one to give to his dad as a gift (which is nice) and the other to sell so that he can donate the money to charity. WTF? |

People are proud to be doing that. Something is deadly wrong. |
I don't know. It almost makes me feel like I've earned it XD although honestly, the only thing I've ever camped for was the Wii, and I will probably never do it again. But it felt rewarding. Buying that Wii. X)! |

But that's not.
Unless he's blatantly lying...which I'm sure he is.
The only thing I ever camped out for were free Foo Fighters tickets. And while it was a great show, the camping out was a pain in the ass. The only fun part was getting to mess with the people who were constantly asking us what we were doing.
Camping out for new video game systems is one thing (even though I'd probably never do it because I don't care enough about any of them), but you can't really get any more ridiculous than camping out for a cell phone (no matter what it does). |

I love my cell phone.
We can sit and argue about convenience and the failure of the human race without technology and engineering but at the end of the day I don't care. I've formed a symbiotic relationship with my phone. It feeds off my lifeforce and wallet, and it grants me the ability to call people anywhere.
It's not just a matter of being too lazy to talk to someone in person. That has -nothing- to do with it, believe me I love to yammer on and on in person however it's not always easy to talk to my friends or family when I'm living across the country. I can't just show up at their door and say "Howd'ya do?"
I don't have a house phone since I'm so mobile, so my cell phone is my primary method of contact.
Did I get along without it when I was a kid? Yeah, sure. -when-I-was-a-kid-. Now I'm grown up, I don't want to wait around the phone at home waiting for people to call me to make plans anymore. Hell no. I'm going to go out and do whatever it is I want to do and I don't have to worry about waiting in a specific place for someone to call me. They can reach me wherever I am and I don't have to stress about it.
All that aside, this isn't a topic about Cell Phone usage and modern society, so I'll get to the fragging point already: I don't like the Iphone. I have to charge my phone every night as it is. I can only imagine what merging my music player and cell phone will do to the battery. Mid-day charges? Yeah not appealing to me at all. Not to mention the very very limited space for music on said Iphone device. What is it? 4gb and 8gb versions? For how much? 600 dollars -and- a contract. Yeah don't think so. I'd rather buy a mp3 player and phone separately, have tons more space and not have to worry about battery life. The Iphone overextends just like the PSP in trying to function as many different devices as one. While this is a cool thing and convenient, practicality pushes us in another direction. If it breaks? Awesome, you just lost two of your devices. Phone and Mp3 player. |

Frankly, I see the iPhone as a beautiful piece of machinery that will hopefully spawn dozens of affordable imitations, one of which might even be compatible with my own cellphone provider. Until that happens, I'm content without one.
I use my current cellphone/mp3 player/camera/internet watcher all the time, but it's not something I would miss if it were gone. Some people are indeed lost without their technology, but those are the same people who can't think without their caffeine or nicotine fix, or sleep without their nice bed, or work without their particular office setup. Some people are just hardwired for dependency, and they have much bigger problems than the phone stuck to their ears...
Oh, I'm back, by the way... Now with 20% more rant. |

If I were to lose my cellphone, you would find me lynched off a data center cabinet at my company with a CAT-6 cable. O.o
Other than that... technology is just entertainment you can live without it (if you saw my apartment you would find it strange me saying that...). |

We got a lovely Employee Communication a few days before the I-Phone launch informing us that
"Due to the anticipated demand, NO employee discounts will be offered with this phone.....It will also not be allowed on any Employee concession line, and if caught doing so, you will lose your line and have it converted to a regular consumer line."
Nice, huh?
We're feeling the greed of AT&T now. |

That's pretty messed up. So basically, you can't even HAVE the phone? |

I can understand the no discount rule, but no phone in general. thats just bad business.
if you wanna pay full price for the phone and new service, thats still money in their pocket. Oh well, customers come first yeah? |
