That kid had a knife. These kids were not armed, nor were they acting threatening in any way.

How did the kid not understand the Severity of the nature? "Apparently" the cop took the kid down in a choke hold and held him for no reason...That to me screams sevarity. Now if the cop took the kid down for being belligerant and not following orders then that seems pretty severe too.
Maybe public schools are at fault...Maybe Severe and severity should actually be vocabulary words because apparently these kids lack knowledge. |

An arm hold might have been enough, but a choke hold is really not that bad. And honestly, having been smacked around a little bit always helps get the point across. The cop was not overly aggressive, most people just don't like to have violence around them. Me...I love it. |

How tight he was holding them doesn't matter. It's still possible he could've unintentionally injured one of the kids in a serious manner-- the pharynx is made of very thin tissue, afterall, that's why it's no common practice to go around grabbing people by the throat. |

Well if he did grip to tight I doubt the kids could say "I can't breathe" =)
Also, you want to discourage use of force unless it is absolutely necessary, and a martial choke hold is VERY painful. I remember choke hold training in Aikido, and I almost blacked out a couple of times.
I'm allergic to pain... it hurts, and I have the scars to prove it! |

An arm round the throat is going to cause less harm than grabbing their arm, you don't have to use as much strength to hold someone in the manner he was holding the kids as they are nearly completely restrained, grabbing their arm they can try and twist free, making his job harder, and the potential for them breaking their arm higher.
As I've pointed out, police in this country are only allowed to use force in extreme circumstances, i.e. they're personally under attack, if the person they're attempting to arrest is refusing arrest they pretty much have to talk them round to giving themselves in rather than using force. Due to this, Britains crime rate is beginning to soar and its not looking like its going to come down.
If your not guilty of anything, you'll give yourself up and be questioned as you have nothing to hide, you should only be scared if you have nothing to hide or have done something wrong, if you have done something wrong or have something to hide, your going to resist arrest, which speaks volumes about the actions of these kids.
The officer, and his colleague, obviously felt the force they used was nessecary. |
