Guy tries to get out of jury duty...

Twelve Angry Men is actually one of my favorite movies. And I was called twice for jury duty before I even got the chance to vote.

Actually, at this point in time, I wouldn't actually mind getting called for jury duty. I'm just saying that it's not fair to force people into it if they don't want to do it, and then give some nonsense excuse to justify it, like it's your "civic duty".

I love it when I get jury duty - Im always hoping that I get picked and trying to give the w right answers, whilst being honest, that maybe Ill get picked. Mostly I just wind up on little misdemenour jurys though Sad

Frankly, if Im in a room full of people I dont know, I dont trust them over myself to deliver the kind of fair analysis that I could give to a case. I feel liek its my duty as a person of some intellegence to attempt to serve and do my duty on a jury.

Thats besides its just...interesting. Its really neat and fun to be part of something different.

The only appeal jury duty has for me is the fact that you get paid to do it...and my company allows you to go on "jury duty leave" with regular pay on top of what you get from serving.

I think the law states that employers have to excuse you for jury duty. Still, it's nice that you get paid on top of what the get from serving. I think my company docks us whatever the court pays us.

I have a sure fire way of getting out of jury duty. Listen to the cross examination "the questions you get asked" and at some point become overly aggitated and scream "Hang the son of a bitch!". You'll not have Jury Duty for a while.

If you want to vote - suck it up - you may get called for jury duty.

You actually have some sort of leverage on something that affects our country. It may seem like a pain in the ass but it is definitely a privelage to be called on for your opinion for justice.

Plus - everyone should have an ID card. You can actually get thrown in the clink overnight if you are out walking around and can't produce a form of identification in some states.

It's not freedoms being taken away - it's merely a way for everyone to be allowed a possibility to be a functioning part of society that can give back in a SMALL way to a country that really does give us so much.

I've been called for jury duty. I was not picked due to experiencing a similar offense that was inflicted on the victim. I'd gladly go in again for the opportunity to participate in something larger than myself and my own universe.

I got called right before I left america and I havn't voted yet. I think it has to do when you register. In any case, I obviously couldn't attend because I would be in Japan...when I called to tell them that they said I had to send some sort of proof, like a letter from my school or something. I think it got taken care of but I can't really remember....
I hope I didn't skip out....I think that would be bad^.^

While it sucks that jury members are randomly selected and all, its kind of the only way to ensure the jury is impartial. If courts just accepted people who came in applying to be on a jury, that would be narrowing juries down to a specific group of people. The idea is to have a completely random selection, minus any people that can be proven to hold any bias towards the case.

Also, Twelve Angry Men was a great movie. Its always my dream that if I'm ever selected for jury duty, I'll be that guy.
