I've watched all 3 of the conferences now.

I was underwelmed by all of the conferences, but I have to honestly say that Sony took this one.

Nintendo was just down right boring. They didn't show off stuff that would get me any more excited. They showed this very small blurb about Mario Kart and that was it. But everyone will be talking about WiiFit, which is a good idea for casual gamers... but for the hardcore gamers.. eh, they gave us nothing.

MS was straight up a commercial and that was it. There was NOTHING new announced. They just said basically... oh we're still in the lead (barely... only about 1million ahead of Nintendo right now) and we're selling the most games and this is what's coming out this year. All things I knew already, thanks.

Sony, while not that impressive, they had some things that were interesting, and welcome to the Humbled Sony execs. Making fun of eachother... I like when they introduced Kaz and asked if he was playing Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidge Racer! MGS had a new trailer and it was awesome. Killzone looks almost as good as it's target video from 2005. The need to work on the textures, but the character models are awesome and the environment damage and lighting were incredible. More of the games I'm itching for like Heavenly Sword and Uncharted. Talk about Unreal Tourney and how the PS3 will allow PC mods to the game. That was pretty amazing. Then the new PSP was reveled and they brought out Chewwy, which was retarded.

Overall...

Sony >>> MS >> Nintendo IMO.

More news from the E3 front...

3rd parties are saying the PS3 will get rumble in Sept.

E3 2007: PS3 Getting Rumble in September?
No announcement from Sony. Just third-party so far.
By Patrick Klepek, 07/12/2007
In the midst of E3, rumble patent-holding company Immersion issued a press release stating they had begun licensing their technology to third-party peripheral creators Hori and Katana to produce accessories with rumble on consoles and handhelds. Specifically, Katana will start releasing rumble controllers for PlayStation, starting in September.

So far, Sony has not announced a rumble-enhanced Sixaxis controller for PS3, but if a third party is delivering one this September -- which seems likely, even if the press release doesn't explicitly mention a PS3 product -- a first-party edition seems pretty likely.

But Sony still denies it.
But they denied the price drop the day before it happened, so no surprise there. Just business.

E3 2007: Sony Still Denies Rumble
Despite word of rumble this September, Sony keeps mum.
By Sam Kennedy, 07/12/2007
This morning came word that Immersion (the company that essentially holds the patent for rumble technology in game controllers) would be working with third-party peripheral manufacturers to release controllers containing rumble for PlayStation platforms this September. The assumption, then, was that Sony would also be offering rumble-capable controllers in September, especially since it is in the clear to do so ever since it kissed and made up with Immersion earlier this year (unless Microsoft's suing of Immersion over the matter has changed things at all).

If Sony is to release a version of the PS3's Sixaxis controller with the rumble functionality this fall, the company would likely begin preparing games with this in mind now. So we asked Phil Harrison, head of all internal development for Sony, if developers had begun to do so yet.

"We have no plans to change our controller functionality at this time, so we're not making any changes to our game designs," said Harrison.

Not at all? Not even in the future?

"The one thing we are doing is incorporating force feedback into games that use the steering wheel," he said.

Separately, Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony CEA, told 1UP's news editor Patrick Klepek that the rumble may be in the cards for the future, but there are no plans for it yet.

"Is it something that could happen down the road? Absolutely, but we haven't made that decision," said Tretton.

Of course, this could be complete spin. Just last week, Sony's president went on record saying the company had no plans to cut the PS3's price, even after retailers had been notified to drop the price (and fliers proving this began to appear). A few days later, Sony officially announced the price drop. In keeping with tradition, then, look forward to rumble functionality for PS3 controllers this fall.
