Apparently my separated Dad up in Chicago has messed up his credit so much in the last year that he isn't a viable co-signor anymore for a loan. Of course, I should've known this two months ago when he first promised to help with these loans.
I can't get a loan by myself. I've been going to school all summer to get my HOPE scholarship back, so I couldn't work. I have zero credit history.
I can't try out for scholarships at this point, as far as I know. I have $425 due for rent August 1st with my friend Johnnie who, prior to my Dad's telling me he had horrible credit, I promised I wasn't going to back out on.
The first $425 is being paid for by my Godfather, bless his heart.
The tuition (not including the dining hall) et all will be paid for by the HOPE, eventually, assuming I get As in all my classes. But since it's being reinstated, they'll need to check over it and it will not be available by the time payment is due.
-.-
Goodbye College, thanks crazy parents. |

It sounds like you'll only have to take a semester off, though. It sucks, but you can still work with it. If you get a job, you should be able to cover your debts (like rent and stuff) and probably save up what you need for tuition if necessary.
Sometimes life gets in the way of things, but -NEVER- give up. If you want to get through college, do it, even if it takes a while. I screwed myself up over college and it's taking me six years to get through it. But I'm doing it. |

Sounds like a frustrating, but temporary, setback in the way things are going. If you have to take a semester off, that's how things happen. Talk to the financial aid office of your college, too. They might be able to work something out with you so that you don't have to take time off. |

Don't give up yet, there's still time to get things straight.
I'm not quite sure what to tell you on how to produce the $400+ dollars, but there is some serious money to be made in yard work and you can make it a lot faster than a regular job. It could at least get you a good portion of it.
Talk to someone at your school now about tuition, the earlier, the better. There should at least be someone there willing to listen. You're certainly not the first person to rely on a full scholarship to afford tuition.
Edit: I just thought of something else...I went through the same "Zero Credit History" bit but made the mistake of not doing something about it until later on...You're a college student and a huge target for credit cards. Go ahead and sign up for one...just one...now and that will set you up with a credit history.
CapitalOne is a good one to try. They have their annoying quirks but you stand an excellent chance at gettnig a card from them...with no annual fee. Keep your balance low, and your payments will be small. Count on having to pay maybe $20 a month in payments, if even that much.
If you can afford it, pay off almost your balance each month, leaving maybe a dollar left to carry over...that way you have a consistent credit history. Zero balances don't work so well so even $1 is enough.
I know this all sounds like TMI, but it works. I have excellent credit from this. Another thing I've run into is to try to get some kind of bill in your name, utility bills are pretty popular....but obviously you need a job to be able to pay for that sort of thing... |
