It's a preference thing. Some people like barebones disk, and then there's people like me who actually DO enjoy buying DVDs because of special features, behind the scenes stuff, documentaries, commentary and that kind of thing. I like to appreciate the work that goes into movies sometimes. If you just enjoy watching the movie that's great, enjoy it, but lesser content for the high price you're paying is never a good thing.
I'm not advocating Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, just the idea that FOR ME added features are a good thing. |

PS3 FTW!
PS3 + 5 Blu-Ray Movies = Best $500 you'll ever spend.

300 set the new record (which couldn't have been that hard considering) for HD Movie sales...

Time Warner reported earlier today that their Helenican hit, "300" has become the fastest selling high definition movie of all time, moving more than a quarter million copies in less than a week.
Time Warner noted that consumers picked up "300" on Blu-ray by almost a 2:1 margin over HD-DVD, signifying a trend which USAToday reports has been the story since the beginning of the year. As the sales numbers consistently return postively for Blu-ray, Sony's format continues to outpace HD-DVD.
Here at PSU we find ourselves asking if Microsoft might not be forced to move to the downloadable distribution model next generation, which Bill Gates proposed several years ago. One thing is certain: Blu-Ray is Sony's innovation and unless HD-DVD is able to turn something around fast, the format is destined to be mothballed.

Becuase the PS3 won't play Blu-Ray movies in hidef unless you have HDMI + HDCP so me only having a 1080p with component and dvi in sucks. It means I can either not watch movies or have it downscaled to 480p depending on the disc manufacturer. |

Ummm... What?
Blu-Rays play on my 1080i only TV in 1080i via component. Otherwise, what would be the point of me buying them. Not sure where you got that. The HDMI + HDCP isn't turned on yet and won't be for years to come. Not until it's more of a standard.
Now... Regular DVDs only upscale to 1080 via HDMI. But Blu-Rays still play in HD... 1080p, 1080i, 720p... whichever is the highest your TV will support. |
