Where have you been?
I've always said I didn't like Princess Bride. I've tried to watch it twice in my lifetime...Get 30 minutes in and just quit.
The spectacle of Andre the Giant isn't powerful enough to keep me in my seat.
Yes I know everyone who has ever seen the movie says "OMGZ that's the greatest movie evar."
I thought it was just me till I met Chuck who also didn't like it...Apparently it tests if you're a true Libertarian or not. |

I haven't read the book so I can't comment on how it compares, but I think she's been a fine actress in everything I've seen her in (except maybe X-men 3 but ah, I hated that movie and she really had a crap part in it). I was excited to see her in this, especially after falling in love with her in Shop Girl. Although I should say my opinion is very biased, as I said already I have not read the book and I'm already a Claire Danes fan. |
Nothing against Claire Danes. She just doesn't really look like the character (at all).

I'm a huge fan of the book. And I'm kind of apprehensive of the idea of Claire Danes as the star. >_< She doesn't look the part at all. |
Here's a mad hint for all you book readers...The movie does in fact suck compared to the book.
Yes I know...How can they do that cramming 700 Pages of dialogue and scene descriptions into a two hour block and not remembering to keep an obscure scene that you simply can't live without seeing portrayed IRL? :P
I have never seen a movie that was better or as good as the book. ^_^
Stardust was in fact an awesome ass movie. It had magic and whimsy the like of which has never been seen before. On a scale of Princess Bride and Stardust...Princess bride being the most boring 30 minutes of my life before shutting it off and Stardust possibly the best fantasy movie I've seen in a long time...I would give Stardust the rating of "Stardust" :P |
I know that :P I wasn't asking, "Did they adapt every little scene and detail perfectly to how it was described in the book?" What I meant was, does it do the book justice? Or does it do something stupid to the story (some major plot or character change) that is going to make me cringe? For example, in trailers, it doesn't look like her leg is broken. That would be what I call a major plot change (if they did in fact change it).
To tell the honest truth, the trailers for it look awful and campy as hell. If I didn't know what this movie was and just went by the trailers, I wouldn't even bother seeing it because it looks like it's going to be bad.
But, since everyone here seemed to really enjoy it, I will give it a chance ^_^

Anyway, Therin said he actually liked the movie better, but he said it was probably b/c he didn't like the guys writing style. |
Well, I'm a big fan of Gaiman, and his style. I even went to the other side of the state just to go to a reading of his. (I got my british copy of Coraline signed by him there, too! <3)
And he didn't write the screenplay for the movie, which is causing me to be apprehensive. Sorry XD |

Her leg is broken when she falls.
Doesn't seem horribly broken, but it is.
Scrummy, you will love the movie. I promise.

Maybe next time you should start 30 minutes in and see how far you get |

Well, her leg is injured anyhow, not necessarily broken. But it does cause her grief.
I love Neil Gaiman's writing as well, but I've been unable to get a copy of Stardust so far-- I've tried a couple of times, but they only have either the 15.00 copy or the copy with the movie pictures in it and I -hate- the movie-versions of books, even if the book is still the same (though I somehow doubt it is). |

It's been a few years since I read it, but I remember that it was a big deal throughout the entire story, and she has a limp for the rest of her life because of it.

I kind of feel the same way XD (don't trust movie copies)
I can loan my copy to you during AWA ^o^ but then you wouldn't get to enjoy the con. XD When I get back to Portland (in less than two weeks), I can check and see if Powell's has any hardbacks left (they're like $15) or mm paperbacks, and you can pay me back =)
If you want, I can call you when I get there and let you know ^^

I will give it a shot. I don't know if I will get a chance to see it in theatres, though, because I move back to Portland in less than two weeks ;D so we'll see. o__O
Also, I just heard from someone that Gaiman approved of the script. So that makes me feel better XD |

saw it without knowing anything about it. Didn't know there was a book first, in fact, didn't know what type of movie it would be.
I enjoyed it. A neat faerie tail. Althou, I thought the action was a lil too fast. I bet they could have made 2 slower paced movies out of all the condensed content found in this one. |
