Most health plans have nutritionists built in cause the healthier you are the cheaper the medical insurance is.

I would check with your insurance provider before you do anything, because I know a lot of nutritionists themselves don't actually accept insurance. Sometimes your provider will reimburse some of the cost, but from the conversation I had with the nutritionist, a lot require that you have particular diagnoses. For example, my insurance requires that I have a diagnosis of diabetes before they cover my costs.

Unfortunately, the one I was seeing was expensive...$600 for 4 sessions. She wanted me to continue with less frequent follow ups, but it was just too expensive to continue with. She did, however, provide me with a good structure to continue, even without further sessions (which really would have just be check-ins). So now it becomes a question of will power to continue without being checked on once a week. Fortunately, I have plenty of nagging influences in my life that are really helping to keep me in check when I start to veer.

I did find out, however, that the costs are tax deductible under certain circumstances. So I would definitely look into that if you were thinking about seeing someone but can't get it covered.

I haven't had actual soda in a while now (I don't count seltzer or sparkling mineral water as "soda")...and now whenever I do happen to have it for whatever reason, it tastes kinda nasty, which just ends up being further incentive for me to not drink it.

Well Ming, at AWA we will celebrate together!

As of this morning I am happy to report that after being on NutriSystem for 2 months, I've lost 23lbs!

When I started personal training about 5 months ago, I was really out of shape. Weighing in at about 249 and not feeling very well.

After about 2 months of training, I was at 247, but fitting into everything better. I had gained obvious muscle mass and fit into my 40s better.

I weighed myself today after my workout and I came in at 224! I'm freakin' stoked! My 40s are now loose and some of them fall off without a belt. My 38s are now super comfortable... and the 36s are hanging in the closet to remind me what my goal is.

I know how you feel about costs though.
The personal training is pricy... $1000 for 30 or so sessions. Not cheap. They break it up into payments so I pretty much pay by the month. I just finished my last session today so I have to buy again. I think this time around though I'm going to be working with a partner so it's cheaper. Nutrisystem is around $300 for 4 weeks of food. On your third order they cut 15%, but that's still $255 or so. Of course the money I save not having to buy much at the grocery story helps with that.

I wish I had the motivation to work out by myself, then I wouldn't be paying this money to do the personal training. But I'm enjoying it and it's serving it's purpose.

Anyway...

I know it's not a huge accomplishment, but it IS an accomplishment nonetheless because I haven't seen any progress in weight loss in a LONG time. And while it's just a small step on my road to a healthier self, it was immensely motivating to see that I HAD made progress.

I would go as far as to say no accomplishment in this area is "small." Everything we do to get healthier is significant. And I look forward to hearing more about your successes. You and I can work off of eachother to continue this success and update eachother with our progress. Keep up the good work brother!

And I will repeat what you said when you started this topic...
Today is a very good day. Thanks for letting me share!

Congratulations! That's definitely a huge accomplishment!

Sadly, I fell off my eating plan for about a week or so, for various reasons...but mostly due to laziness. It's no excuse really, although I will say I still wasn't eating as much or as badly as I was before. But again, no excuses. Today, however, I went back into my eating plan full force. It's my goal to drop another 10 pounds by the time AWA comes along.

You can do it man. I know you can.

Small things help. Like I have cut myself back to 2 beers a week. Which is hard for me since I like to have a beer when I'm in a social situation at dinner or something.

I'm also eating a lot more fruits and veggies.
I eat 6 times a day with smaller portions, which helps a lot.

I still can't get away from my sodas though. I don't drink them much, but I have maybe 2 20oz bottles a week. So it's not too bad.

You guys are awesome!! I know you both can do it. Ming, once you join the Y and start swimming more, or whatever you're planning on doing, you'll lose a lot more weight. The weight you've already lost was just by changing what you're eating, imagine how much you'll lose once you start exercising too!!

On a personal note, I've lost 12lbs! The first 10 I've really worked hard on. I was going to the gym about 4-5 times a week and working my butt off, but the last 2lbs came from no where, which is great and means that I'm eating better.

Hopefully, you'll all see a new an improved undies at awa! Mr. Green
