I just moved into another apartment by myself! Thank god! BUT...my last roommate, who is still a friend of mine, just asked me to pay the cable bill! I'm not even freaking living there! Meanwhile, ever since we got the apartment I paid the cable bill and she paid the electric bill. I never asked her for her half of the cable bill and vice versa. THe electric bill was always around $35-$40 a month. The cable bill was always $96. So, she says that I should pay the cable bill for this month, because the electric bill was much higher for this month, duh it's the summer! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. If she wanted to split things she should have said something, but why would she have wanted to, she always paid much less than I did!

Not for nothing, but I always bought groceries and a ton of stuff for the apartment, that SHE USED, but I never asked her for money! She's just being a cheap bitch!

I'm pissed and not paying! Thoughts??

BUt thats just me. And then I would throw in, before she can argue that you should pay, the facts, that you DO buy groceries, which she never pitched in for.

or ask her, since if you pay for the cable bill, that you will calculate her half of the groceries that she owes you on if she wants to get technical.

The next roomate I have will have a ring on her finger... I've had roomates for 5 years, and I'm tired of it. I enjoy having the place I live to myself.

If you are not living with her then it is not your obligation to give her money for utilities. Just tell her that you want her to pay your electric bill at your residence.

If you're being asked to pay the August Cable bill, then you should pay it since you were living there.

If this is for the September bill, then no way!
Send her a prorated amount for the number of days you were still living there in September...about $3 a day. It may sound totally smartass, but it is completely fair to only pay for the time you were there.

It looks pretty likely that she's looking for a free ride on the cable bill for the next month.

I'm with fawkes on this one. Pay for the time you used it if you made the arrangement. But if she's asking you to pay for the now cable bill - F IT!

I agree about roomies. No matter how good friends (and love them still!) you can be it's hard living up to each other's standards.

My final roomie is my hubby now. And I nearly fought him tooth and nail before I finally consented to moving in with him before marriage.

It's usually a month ahead of time with the bills. My personal home bill is set up the same way.

Thanks for the support and help. That bitch sent me the nastiest e-mail about how she's pissed that I left and that I should pay the bill and so on and so forth. I told her if she wanted to get technical than I will pay half of the bill, since I was only living there for half of the month. Just like we did with the rent.

She was such a good friend and it's unfortunate that things went out like this, but things happen....It's kind of like an episode of The Hills, except we're not filthy rich.

I'm so glad I live on my own now! Hopefully, my next roomie will be Ming and it will be soon
