For some reason "A Modest Proposal" comes to mind only the consumption is metaphorical...

I'm surprised at how public this is. Forgive my bluntness but, I take it that Britain does not experience many Missing Children cases.

Sadly, the US has so many that they had to create a system network where they put out a vigilante alert every time one occurs....which is 1 every 1-2 months.

We do, but they're not widely reported, you get one or two that take over the media for a while, Holly and Jessica from Soham in 2002.

The problem is, Britain seems to dwell on the past alot, we're a country still recovering from the murder of James Bulger.

Its not helped by publications such as The Daily Mail, which seem to want to spread fair on everybody within the country, making people believe things like teenage pregnancy, assault and paedophillia are on the increase daily (which I have no proof that any of these things aren't, but you get my point) and that everybody in this country seems to want to be a celebrity now. I read a report in one of the rags (tabloids) last week that had a 5 year old girl saying she wanted to grow up to be Jordan/Katie Price (if you don't know, shes a softcore glamour model), thats just incredibly sad to me, especially as my daughter is only a year and a half younger. And its just begun to feel like the McCanns are making themselves into celebrities on the back of whatever has happened to their little girl.

I've read bout Madeleine from time to time and when the police named her parents as formal suspects, it reminded me of the movie 'Freedomland' - Samuel L Jackson and Julianne Moore, about a distressed woman, arrives severely injured to the hospital, telling to the police that she got car jacked, and the delinquents have kidnapped her 4-year-old son. The police are blaming a black man of the kidnapping, which causes a big-mass protest of the black community. But something is missed in the story told by the mother and after having received the help of the group of mothers in the search, it seems that Brenda is ready to confess a disturbing truth. While she was busy with her boy friend, her 4 yrs son drank cough syrup and died of overdosed.

On news, here in Malaysia, an 8 yrs old girl, Nurin, went missing on August 20th, it was highlighted in local news everyday and got a lot of attention from the police, media, ministers and civilians. She went to night market near her house alone and did not return, witness said they saw a guy in white van took her away.

On September 17th, a child body was found sexually assaulted and killed in sports bag and abandoned in a shop lot. Post mortem reported that the killer had placed a cucumber and a brinjal in the girl’s vagina and anus. Her abdomens were ruptured and she died of infection. Nurin parents were called to identify the body but they claimed that she is not their daughter. http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2007/9/18/nation/18914532&sec=nation

Yesterday, the DNA confirmed that the poor child is indeed Nurin who was missing a month ago. This world is full of sick people, who ever did this is not human, he’s an animal, and even animals love their kids..
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2007/9/21/nation/18953287&sec=nation&focus=1

We should be more careful, don’t let our kids go out or play alone, never let them out of our sight, well I don’t have kids but I do have nephew and niece that I love to death.

Its always sad when a young child goes missing because it rarely ends happily.

Amber Alerts, what FawkesFyre was reffering to, should be in every country if you ask me

I wouldn't so much blame the press on this one as the McCanns have put themselves out their in the public face as much as they possibly could, they've approached the press which is why theres so much coverage.

Maybe that was their plan. Evil geniuses.
