I'm surprised that nobody has posted anything about this yet. Is anyone going to go see it? Is anyone as excited about it as I am? I'm a big fan of the comics, so I'm stoked about this...and it looks pretty damn good too!

You can check out the trailer on the official site...

www.30daysofnight.com

And Moviefone has posted a special R-rated clip of the movie...

Saw it! Here are my opinions (keep in mind that I haven't read the graphic novel, so I can't say for its adaptive qualities, although Max said that the writing was pretty much the same):

(no spoilers)
-The movie gets better as it progresses.
-The acting was pretty good, even impressive at points.
-Some of the scene transitions were utter crap. XD
-Some of the dialogue was utter crap. XD
-There were some parts that were predictable.
-It's pretty much a typical zombie film, but with vampires. There were several archetypal "zombie/survival horror" characters present.

(spoilers)
Quote:

-It never quite explained how they could tell that time was passing, and I was disappointed that they didn't explore that idea further.
-What happened to the Inuits?? They were so cute =(
-The moment they introduced the grinder thing, I totally knew someone was going to end up in there. XD

XDD Your last non-spoiler point, Scrummy, is exactly why I want to go see this. I'm not a fan of vampires at all, but I do like zombie movies, and this definitely seemed like it'd be just a zombie movie with vampires instead, even just from the previews.

Although I read the original comic (the one that this is based on) and don't remember EVERYTHING, this was pretty close to the subject matter, and the things that they did change didn't really detract from the movie or the story. The only thing I didn't quite understand (and this isn't really a spoiler) is why Eben and Stella in the movie were facing marital problems, while they were perfectly fine in the comics. It didn't really take away from the story, but I don't think it added either. Otherwise, I think they did a great job, and I'd urge anyone who really liked it to pick up the graphic novels...they're great!

As far as the acting/dialogue is concerned, I was also pleased with this. I thought the acting was great too, and while I didn't initially picture Josh Hartnett playing Eben, he did a really good job. And I was pleased that they didn't add any corny dialogue that movies like this usually have (at least in my opinion).

I thought it made the movie really neat! It added a very interesting dynamic. It's one of the up-sides to the film. But I hadn't seen any of the previews, so I didn't have any idea that it would be like that XD It was a pleasant surprise.

I really want to read the comic, because I heard Ben Templesmith is a flippin artistic genius.

As for the dialogue, I was complaining about it later and Max explained that it was sort of the style of the writer, and people seem to love it or hate it.

Haha, I was pleasantly surprised with Josh Hartnett too, especially

Ben Templesmith's art is probably the #1 reason (at least in my mind) to actually go out and read the comic. The story is great, but it's his art that really brings it all together.

Bumping this up as I just watched the movie on blu-ray. I totally wish I had seen it in theatres. And as I said in my entertainment blog (it's so fun to be shameless), as a non vampire film fan this one was really good and completely worth it. David Slade is an amazing director.

I thought it was good until the end, which was way over done. The brain pull was ridiculous. Rolling Eyes
