I swear I've just about had it with the general population.
I honestly do not understand the trait in our human nature that causes us to speculate and to draw conclusions about ppl based on tiny snippets of information that we discover.
PPL just glaze over the fact that things can get grossly misconstrued, and blown so far out of proportion that it just makes me sick.
What ever happened to the concept of communication? You know, opening your mouth and asking a question? Picking up a phone...sending an email...sending an IM...or even the more old fashioned act of sending a written letter?
Being that my own college degree is Communications...this just short-circuits my brain. This is especially the case when either ppl I personally know, or I have it happen to myself.
We fall victim to Assumptions.
It causes so many problems, can do so much physical, mental, and emotional damage...and can destroy a person and their credibility and pride. But we as humans seem to crave this drama and information to where we hoard it and let it build and fester until it explodes.
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---
So, I'm opening myself up to the forum to ask away. Ask me anything you want and I will do my best to give a straight and honest answer. I can only hope to encourage others to try to open up more and break the cycle of assumption and get to know one another more. |

Funny story: one person I talked to on the internet sincerely believed I was a young woman with sky blue hair.

Assumptions....I dont like them much, I once went to a Catholic (Satanic) H.S. named Assumption. Yes, the best bet is to not judge the books you see by their covers. When you assume something you only make an ass our of U and Me HEEEHEEEE I'M DRUNK AS FUNK! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Get out yo' house! WOOOOOOO |

... Thank you Gekko.
Anyway, I like the description "illness of assumption". More than simply hurting individuals, I've seen virulent assumptions and stubborn self-righteousness tear apart communities.
Worse than that, assumptions aren't something one can just ignore. Simply trying to power through someones assumptions in one's original course only builds those false opinions. Worse, a false assumption can grow until it finally hits with enough force to become truth. ("Already been convicted of the crime, may as well commit it.")
Change can alter a person's opinions. Drastic change can shatter them. Unfortunately, those who are too stubborn to change are often the ones who hold their assumptions most closely, leading to hard fought conflicts of opinion that can spread throughout a community and break it just as effectively as it can break an individual.
Anyway, I ramble, and worse, I use a lot of assumptions in my rambling. (though I'd like to think they're fairly refined ones ) |

Nope. And certainly none that would reopen discussion on a particular topic. |

Ok Mr. Smartypants...you asked for it...
Its actually not so much pertaining to that, but anything regarding that has to go in PM Land now.
But really it was a culmination of many things and recent situations that inspired it...nothing nasty meant behind it all.
My mom's a huge example of this "Ass Illness"...chronic case I believe. |

LOLZ
I needed a good laugh as I rot away braincells reformatting a giant spreadsheet of D00M!
Hmm, how does that make me feel? Irritated as all hell! Sometimes I wanna bonk my Mom in the head w/ a giant mallet until she stops talking and decides to listen.
She sees nothing wrong w/ the fact that all the little old ppl in my neighborhood spazzed out on me for not having all my stuffs off the driveway like a week ahead of time...and having some dude knock on my door at 8am then call me at 8:15 to inform me that there's a big red truck in my driveway that has to be moved by...9AM!!!!
Oh, they're just trying to make sure everything's ready in time...um yeah, and that would justify why I had 5 messages on my answering machine in 1 week to move my stuff by 9am on Monday?
And how does it pan out? I fully complied and was gone by 8:30.... |
