I really don't see any problem with the $25K Sundae...If you have the money freakin buy it...How is it different from buying a Lamborghini that sits in a garage?

Or a painting that hangs on your wall?

Don't give me any "That money can go to charity" BS either...Ok..The goblet maker sells the goblet..He has a family...So you buying that pays him...The chef creating the sundae as well as the restaurant upkeep means guess what MORE people who need money. And the waiter...He needs to get paid too.

It's called the "Trickle down" effect...Look it up.

As someone who cooks a lot, the thought of spending 25,000 dollars on a consumable item of questionable taste, and might be toxic (gold is a heavy metal) seems a little far-fetched to me.

I can understand spending large sums of money on art or cars since it is more of a investment, and you are buying it because you enjoy the work (I'm an art collector, my walls in my apartment are filled with it). In the case of cars, it is because you enjoy driving it or collecting it in a similar manner as art.

I can even understand spending thousands on meals at tres chic resturants since you are paying for top quality food and atmosphere. I remember dining at a place in New York City where you did not even have a menu. You just told the waiter what you wanted (within reason, no very exotic meats), and they brought it out to you. I think I had a Kobe ribeye that you could cut with a plastic spork and a 20 year single malt (places like that don't have drinking ages) that just blew my mind.

As someone who cooks a lot I realize that the food has nothing to do with it.

I realize that people buy stupid shit all the time for status...I mean people bought the iPhone

Right now somewhere in America someone is buying $10,000 rims for a $3000 car. It's all about tha status.

Now if you wanna argue why people that seek status are bad than go ahead...However, you can't choose this one thing and leave out Rims, sound systems, king penguin meat (Angelina Jolie loves the stuff), cell phones that do things other than be cell phones, 18 bedroom houses for a 4 person family, and of course bling.

I'm with you on all this, and gunslinger as well since its really a culmination of both since ppl do things for different reasons...the same sort of thing applies to the families who are on welfare, get their kids free breakfast and lunch from the school, but drive BMW's and wear designer clothes.

But, I just can't resist smacking this thing down cuz I work for the company that sells the product. Granted, I will admit that the iPhone got WAY too much hype but that link you posted just made me laugh. For the record, if anyone cares, this is what the iPhone can really do.

Never really thought of eating Penguin before...I'd be curious as to what it would taste like...but not exactly willing to give it a try myself. I eat a good variety of meat but I think I'll put that on my personal "No" list.

I'm more for Beef over any other option.

Er. The mention of King Penguin meat was sort've out of left field. That's like talking about people who eat squirrels. Unless they ridiculously overcharge for the stuff, considering King Penguins aren't even on the Threatened list, let alone endangered.

** The more you know **

I personally agree with Thoreau and his theories about simplicity, but nobody cares about that anyhow, so I think I'm going to stay out of the rest of this argument. ^_^

I think Gaaz has a lawn chair set up in the field off to the left over there Wink--and I've kinda eatten squirrel once last Thanksgiving...just a tiny taste. No comment though since I don't intend to do that again.

But yeah, I like keeping my money. If somebody can afford to buy me that sundae, I'll gladly take the money instead Very Happy

So...I guess Karma's a bitch...

Popular NYC eatery shut down for rodents Thu Nov 15, 3:17 PM

NEW YORK - While serendipity may be the art of finding pleasant things by chance, what health inspectors found at celebrated eatery Serendipity 3 was not very agreeable.

Officials closed the restaurant Wednesday night after it failed its second inspection in a month. An inspector spotted a live mouse and mouse droppings, fruit flies, house flies and more than 100 live cockroaches.

"Both inspections revealed rodent and fly infestation and conditions conducive to pest infestation, including stagnant water in the basement," the department said.

People stand in line for hours outside the Manhattan restaurant, known for its extravagant and expensive desserts. Its $25,000 Frrrozen Haute Chocolate features top-grade cocoa, edible gold and shavings of a luxury truffle and was declared the most expensive dessert in the world by Guinness World Records. The eatery also offers a $1,000 sundae named Golden Opulence requiring 48-hour advance notice.

In my best Nelson impression...

HAHA!!!
