Comedy, as of late, in my view, has become stale and boring. I think it might be due to everyone tacking "your mom blah blah blah" onto everything could be killing it. It could also be that the classic way to tell a joke is dead. "what do you get when..." I don't think I've laughed at a pun in a long time either. So basically a joke has to either be really smart, politically wrong, or shocking (the latter two often finding themselves together) for me to crack a smile. Am I losing my sense of humor, have I evolved into a higher level of comedy?

PS - stating that my mom is stale and boring won't be funny. I don't care what smiley you put after it. It's old. It was old when I saw it on Napoleon Dynamite, it was old in third grade. How the hell did that become mainstream? |

I do believe you're just looking in the wrong places Terin, though I will agree that the majority of comedy is degenerating into idiotic banter. My poison of choice, satire, isn't terribly hard to find, but is becoming strangely less frequent.

the weird part is, I don't even know what catagory of comedy I fall into, or which I prefer. I guess I'm just becoming a tough audience that expects more. I'm gonna FOR REALS start carrying around a notepad and whenever I think of something/say something funny, I'll jot it down.

Seriously though...comedy isn't that funny right now. I mean, all you have to do is watch so called "funny" shows on TV and you'll see how un-funny most of it is.

If you want to watch a funny sitcom, I recommend Two and a Half Men (Charlie Sheen is the main star), and I know on G4 soon Spaceballs the Animated Series is coming out and that will be comedy gold (it's Mel Brooks doing animation)!
Of course I'm laid back enough that I can find the humor in alot of things... which tend to lead to awkward situations when I laugh for no obvious reason.
Oh, and watch that video it is Mel Brooks doing an 80s hip hop song about Hitler. It is equally parts funny and disturbing. |
