Seeking Assistance

As I mentioned in another post, I am looking to help Linksama find a job (you would think with a specialization in network security on his degree he'd have an easier time...). A GOOD job. (his current job he got the info from ECPI, and ECPI had been told that anyone placed could expect a certain amount of money, and he's getting paid HALF of that... yeah...)

One of the states we had previously discussed moving to was GA, and sadly, neither of us know much about what is good and bad and otherwise down there.

So I am looking for advice not only on where to look for jobs, but also what areas of th estate are ok to live in and such. My big job in all of this is "screening" neighborhoods to make sure they're not dangerous to live in. Or something like that.

Any help would be appreciated!

What kind of network engineering background does Linksama have? Because we are looking for general Network Engineers at my company, but we have plenty of Network Security people.

Also in Georgia, the north side of Atlanta is preferable to the south part mostly. Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, North Marietta, and Dunwoody are good places.

I honestly don't know much about his exact skills. He's just coming out of school with his bachelor's though, and has his A+ and S+ (one I had never heard of before) and is contemplating the N+.

I know database stuff is off limits too.

I just send him the information, and he decides whether or not to apply.

Gunslinger's a good resource for that industry...but we can help with the general locations and generic info. It all really varies.

Have you thought about where you'd want to live out here in GA? That does make a difference in the commute and just general area.

I'll ask my dad, too. I know earlier this year he was talking about how his company was looking to train fresh-out-of-college dudes for some specific job that's going to make quite a bit of money. <3 I just don't remember what it was, and I'm not sure if they're still looking.

But yeah, I only really know North GA areas as far as where is good to live. Are you looking for a house, an apartment, rental, buying, what sort of price-range (though I'm sure that's hard to assess without knowing how much Link will be making, etc) It's a buyer's market right now, and I know that there are at least two houses in Shino's subdivision and two or three in my parents' subdivision up for sale and they're both good areas, but might be a bit out of your price range, depending.

Feel free to PM your prospected pricerange. Or if you just want a link to at least my neighbor's listing to get an idea. Hers would be cheaper b/c the owner skipped out on the mortgage.

We're looking at most likely renting for a little whiel at first, and not going into southern GA. We both have loans to pay off, and can't really determine a price range until we know what he's doing for work (it's horribly irritating, I'm still irritated with where he's working, they have him being a receptionist AND their only IT guy, and he's getting paid less than I was answering phones for a telephone company, and he's in a city where the cost of living is a lot higher than where I live) No matter where we live, it needs to have at least 2 bedrooms, I just spent a year getting my son to quit sleeping in my room, we are NOT going back to that. If we can get a total income into the house of about 40,000 then 800-900ish in rent shouldn't be toooooooo horrible. And considering what work experience I DO have, I can get a decent job as well.

If we end up in GA, we'd probly end up in the greater Atlanta area, but I'm not sure.

(I HATE all of this uncertainty >.<)

8-900 is pretty doable in Ga. Its just all about location and county. My subdivision doesn't allow renters...mainly b/c its filled w/ nosey old ppl that run the board that way. But there are many other places that are not such pains. There are also plenty of places to buy when you're ready.

Just keep us all posted and we'll happily give you a rundown of what you need to know about an area.
