The thing about that is I would have an issue paying for "cards" that I didn't have a physical grip on

That's my biggest problem with it. I once got into an argument with a guy on the StarCity forums about the difference between real cards and online cards. He claimed that they were exactly the same, but I said that they really are not. The sad trust is that eventually, Magic will go away. And when it does, so will Magic Online, so all the cards that you invested in are gone forever. (As an aside, I have heard stories of the system crashing at times and people losing their cards. As Rev, this happened to him.) But as long as I take good card of my real cards, I will have them much later on in life as something that I can pull out and play with when I need something to do or give to my kids and possibly even my grandkids to play with. Plus, I'm hoping one day to get some sort of return on my investment. Cardboard will retain it's value, code will not.

That said though, what I will say about Magic Online is that if you want to get better at limited play, it's a very efficient tool for doing just that because you don't have to sit around and wait for drafts to start up....someone is ALWAYS running one online. It's also a very good tool for teaching you the rules of the game. Because it regulates the rules (unlike Apprentice or Magic Work Station) you can't do illegal things that you may have done in real life Magic, and it teaches you all the litte nuances of the stack that you might not get playing in real life.

Demon angel

Yup, in one of my original forays into Magic Online, I lost my collection to a server crash. Believe me I wasn't happy, and pretty much kicked that habit till a little while back, then just stopped when I came up to school.

Magic Online does help a lot with polishing your skills for sure, because it means that you are not tied down to who in your play circle is available for a game. However, I for one feel that it is better to learn the game NOT on Magic Online, because you become lazy in remembering everythin going on since the computer takes care of it for you.

I would like to get a video game version of it, whether it be console or PC, to sharpen up.

I'll have to agree with Rev on that one and I'm glad he brought it up since I didn't. It is better to LEARN in real life, because like he said, people who learn on Magic Online DO get lazy. You can usually tell who they are if you play them in real life because they don't really know the rules that well because they are used to the computer not letting them mess up.

See I always wanted them to release a video game version of it for said reasons. A modern updated one would be great and you know it would sell like mad.

Unfortunately, I think everyone here lost interest in the Magical Cards.

I played online for a bit, but I was getting screwed over because my settings were all funky and lost a few matches I SHOULD have won, so I stopped. I still have my account though...maybe I'll fire it up again sometime.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have though, either here or in the other thread. I'd love for interest in the game to spark up again.

Unfortunately I'm at work all day, and I don't have access to AIM. I wish I did though...it has been a while since we had a nice chat, and it would make my day go by so much faster. Your best bet is to just either post here, or PM me. Although I don't have AIM, I'm usually online a lot, especially checking PO. Actually, you should definitely post here...maybe seeing Magic conversations going on will get people interested again. That, and Tobs and Rev may chime in from time to time to help you out as well.

Actually...why not direct all Magic deck/advice related inquiries to the "official" Magic thread:
