It's because Japanese people only wanna play portable games really.
If you cross reference DS games sold and Cell Phone games DL'd I bet they're about the same. |

Its not just a case of the hardware selling like hotcakes, if you look at the software sales you'll find a similar situation to what we h ave in the West where its mostly edutainment style titles that are shifting units rather than traditional games.
I've found that whilst alot of people are using DS' the vast majority are just buying one or two games, the most common I've found amongst those not really interested in videogames happen to be Nintendogs and Brain Training.
I'm not saying this is a bad thing, it most certainly isn't for Nintendo particularly, but the hardware adoption rate for both of Nintendo's systems is extremely high compared to the software adoption rate.
I'm not saying the software isn't there, its just not being purchased by anywhere near a respectable amount of people who own the hardware. |

Gaaz and Riva are both right in this case.
Props to Nintendo though. They made something that everyone thinks is innovative (in reality it's not though since Tiger had a touch screen portable in the Game.com), and it's selling like crazy.
Mostly b/c what Riva said... it has the educational titles and the casual market.
But Riva... check out the sales charts on software in Japan... DS is always filling up the top 10. |
