I have come to the conclusion that once Link and I are in teh same location, I am going to make sure I have a duplicate copy of my driver's license at all times. Tape one inside my glovebox or something and keep the other one on my person.
Why?
I lost my license. Link and I are trying to get a townhouse in Va. They want my driver's license. I know the number, so that was easy enough to put on the paperwork. With it being missing, they're able to accept my birth certificate for th time being. No biggie.
So I would be able to drive, I went online on Saturday and ordered a replacement of my license. No photo, but it is a legal document at this point that I can use to drive.
I have a form I have to get notarized. I called the town office this morning. Two bucks for a notarization. Photo ID required. Insert much swearing.
I called Link. He said to call the BMV (Bureau of Motor Vehicles) and see if I can get a photo ID today. So I call the BMV. After five prompts to get to a person to ask my question, I get a rude woman who when I explain that I need a photo ID and ask about getting one, replies with "do you have hotel or airline reservations in another state?" No, I don't, but this is needed for an apartment application in another state. "We can't do it immediately unless you have hotel or airline reservations in another state."
What the fuck?! I need it for PERMANENT lodging in another state. Airline and hotel reservations can be adjusted. I'm trying to get someplace to LIVE. I need the photo ID to get the notarization, and I need the notarization to complete the application. Realty places don't have the time to wait 14-21 days for my replacement license to get to me. They have to get someone into the place as soon as they can. I understand this. I also understand that I shouldn't have lost my license. I can find everything else that was in my coat pocket, but my license seems to have escaped at some point. I own like four wallets and two purses. I put everything in one of them, and then take everything out as I use it and don't put it back in again. It's a system I work with. I'm used to it. I actually don't lose things very often with this system.
I'm just very frustrated with this whole thing with the BMV. I'm willing to pay AGAIN for a real replacement. WTF?! |

It's illegal to have multiple drivers licences but it's not illegal to have a drivers licence and just a photo id. |

State of Maine won't let me have a state ID as well as my driver's license. Otherwise I would've gotten one of those.
And one of the options on the phone was "Renewal, Duplicate or Replacement".... hmmmm |

Interesting, most states don't allow duplicates. But I say go for it. |

I once lost my wallet and had to get a new license. Despite having to wait in line at the Department of Motor Vehicles (anagram is EVIL), I filled out a form and they got me a new one. THe funny thing is that a month and a half later, someone sent my wallet back, and now i actually have two driver's licenses.

Not only do I have multiple drivers licenses, I also have my most current version scanned into my computer.
By the way, Egon, When someone asks you if your a God, say yes.
IE - when they ask if you have airline reservations, lie.
True story. I once drove through Canada while visiting in-laws in Michigan. While stopped at a park I bent down to pick up a dandelion and my license FELL OUT OF MY POCKET. After driving several miles to the ferry back across the river I discovered my mistake and we turned at the U turn at the last second and drove several miles BACK to where I dropped it. Fortunately the mowers were out that day but hadn't reached the park we stopped at. |

I wish i had 2 DLs so i could have both my wallets ready to go for all my travels but i do keep at least 4 forms of ID on me at all times: DL, SS card, college photo id (w/ birthdate), and a copy of my hunter ID card. needless to say everyone is sure who i am (but no one knows what i am ) i also keep my organization IDs on me since one never know when you will need them.
on the issue of renew/replace, i am just annoyed my voter ID/registry was not changed so to vote tues it is back to the mountains for primaries...lovely indeed.
Edit:
Turns out THEY ERASED MY REGISTRY! As such...no votes from me... |

It's actually dangerous to keep your social security card on you and they don't recommend doing it. It makes it way easier for a wallet thief to steal your identity. |

I agree. You should just have your number memorized for when you need it. Since you're a college student, I'm pretty sure that you already do. When I went to college, I needed it for everything...so it took me no time to just memorize it.
Also, I don't think student IDs hold up as a valid proof of identification...outside of your school of course. When I was in school, mine actually said, "This is not a valid form of ID".
With that said, Jaena...do you have a passport? If so, you should be able to use that. I believe that it's the strongest form of identification that we can have, and there's no reason why anyone should not accept it, especially if you can recite your driver's license number from memory for the time being. |

I can't believe I forgot to update the status on this...
I got it in a week. I was ready to scream when it came in.
And no, I do not have a passport. |
