Again, another day that depends on your definition of "important"...

Yeah, I don't like tomorrow either. Everyday should be Valentine's Day, and I don't really like scripted holidays (besides birthdays, which are personal and not related to the general public deciding to celebrate, and I really didn't like Christmas this year (I had (family) Christmas at about five different houses (all of that my father's side of the family) this year) so that blew my holiday-in-general spirit).

Especially ones that don't really have any history. Yes, yes, Chaucer, yes, yes, the myth of St. Valentine, yes, yes, the fertility rituals, but really.

I'm begging my friends not to give me chocolate because I should be really picky with chocolate and not eat bad chocolate like Valentine's Day chocolate. ....Mwe.

It's fairly well known among my friends and family that I don't support the holiday today; that being said, I'll probably end up getting hugs and candy from some people.

St. Paddy's day, on the other hand, is a favorite. I usually end up getting presents on that day even though it's not traditionally a gift-giving day... unless you count buying drinks or pinching as gift-giving.

It's really a Hallmark holiday - admittedly, the idea behind it is sweet, especially with the chocolate, but it can also be a really expensive holiday for us, and that sucks, too, that we're expected to go and spend lots of money to prove how much we love someone.

The way I now see it is that its a chance for those couples who don't really get to spend alot of time as a couple to have just the one day/evening dedicated to each other. But that really doesn't have to be a scripted day defined by a calendar.

I agree! My boyfriend sent me a pic message with a candy heart that said "F%$# You" on it and is prolly taking me to dinner tonight, only because he owes me a meal. I said that the Giants would win the Superbowl and he thought the Pats would. Hehehehe, free meal baby! but other than that we really don't celebrate it.
