in reference to Kamigawa Dragons:

Stick to any of them but the green and red ones. The white one (yosei) just stops the opponent, the blue one (Kaiga) is great for thievery, and the black one (Kokusho) just wins a game. What's nice about the black one also is that in a fix, you can just hard-cast it and vioala! Instant dagron!

lol i bought three a few weeks ago for a dollar something and yesterday i bought the merrow riverways precon, so now i have five of those hoe's

i do like the merfolk deck you posted, but after playing with that precon i have to add the white cards, judge of currents and harpoon sniper are just too bad ass to leave out

my first match with the precon i had 69 life and was gaining 6 turn (while turning half my opponents land to stuff he couldn't use) and was steadily gathering a huge army.. didn't get to finish cuz i had to go to work but still that was bad ass.. 'specially for a precon

I built a merrow milling deck and took it to several FNMs a while ago, and it was taking on actual standard decks. I'll go * by * for things that i noticed in your list

*LANDS: The lands should be simple...so with wanderwine hubs, since it'll always come out untapped (the merfolk BW land. Great for fixing) Also, you may want to try putting in spring-leaf drums, since they accelerate and move the deck along

*Lord of Atlantis: I like him, don't get me wrong...but he's an aggressive merfolk, and not the milling variety. If you want this to be a milling deck, you may want to cut him down. Don't get me wrong, he makes it harder to take care of your Merfolk, but if you're going a beatdown route, then he's a better card. Merrow Reejery is a much more potent merfolk for the deck.

*Harpoon Sniper/Sygg - I never used them. They're too slow and they take away from the deck type. And if you're playing a bagillion merfolk with Judge of Currents out, you shouldn't EVER have to worry about damage.

My first suggestions with the creature base: Get silvergill adepts in there, and by in there, try 4 of them. They're great and fast and net you a card. Card advantage is wonderful...they do that.

Also, if you decide to go with springleaf drum in the deck, play with fallowsage. you're going to be drawing stupid amounts of cards. When i was putting the deck together, a friend of mine didn't understand why i was putting them in. When i started drawing like a fiend, he understood the reason.

Try playing with more silvergill dousers. Maybe 3 instead of two. They are cheap and slow down the opposition very quickly.

Finally, you may want to find a way to play with Merrow Harbinger, but he's not a must, since if you play with the fallowsage and adept, you'll be drawing lots of cards.

SPELLS

*Forced Fruition - It's cute, but i've only seen this card have serious impact in limited play, when a successful casting of one means the opponent has 3 spells left to play. IN constructed, there are more answers and in a format where Oblivion Ring runs rampant, it's easy to get shut down.

Which brings me to my first suggestion: Run O-rings. It's super-powerful removal and gets practically everything in the format.

*Aquitects will - I tried it, and it didn't do it for me, even in an aggressive mono-blue merfolk aggressive deck. the ponders are a good turn-1 play

*Merrow Commerce - If you get one, you're going to be raping the opponent. Despite that, i don't think you need a full set of them. WHile they do count as merfolk, you'll be seeing them and saying "Dammit...i wanted XXXX card instead." Try cutting it to two, or being gutsy and mizing it down to only one. If you're playing the harbinger, i'd suggest the one, but if not, go with two. your call.

My suggestions for spells: Play O-ring, since its great removal and maybe one more summon the school. Summon the school is pretty much your win-card, since it'll start generating a stupid amount of merfolk.

Anywho, here's what I played (I've taken the deck apart, so bear with me if something may be amiss.)

4 Merrow Reejery
4 Silvergill Adept
3 Silvergill Douser
2 Fallowsage
3 Drowner of Secrets
2 Streambed Aquitects
4 Judge of Currents
2 Merrow Harbinger

3 Oblivion Ring
2 Merow Commerce
3 Summon the school
4 Springleaf Drum
2 Ponder

10 Islands
7 Plains
4 Wanderwine Hub

Anyway, that was right off the top of my head, so some numbers may be a bit off...but if you look at it, it focus' on getting out merfolk galore, getting a drowner, and going ape-poopoo on the opponent.

Remember - reejery will make the deck go MUCH MUCH faster. In a deck where you're trying to mill the opponent, the reejery will accelerate you, especially by either untapping lands or by untapping a springleaf drum and a fallowsage for epic card-draw.

Anywho, let me know what happens.

Demon angel

A few other things that I notice.

-If Drowner of Secrets is your main kill card, you need to protect it, AND you want lots of merfolk on the table
-Stonybrook Schoolmaster might be helpful, as it can be tapped for the drowner plus put more merfolk into play. Summon the School could be good for this too.
-Countermagic, just a small suite of it could be helpful. Runesnag, Cryptic Command, Cancel, all of these could help stop a mass removal spell from wiping your board.
-All of what Tobs recommends I'd do. Oblivion Rings are awesome for whatever you need of them.

I must say, Cryptic Command is teh S***. It's just so friggen powerful and it reeks of card advantage. The only reason why I wouldn't suggest it, though, is due to it's heavy blue mana cost.

Otherwise, delay and rune-snag are AMAZING controlling cards. They FUBAR the opponent up.

Selesyna Deck

Hey guys. A while back, Shini asked me to look over his Selesnya deck and try to rework it to be more competitive. I apologize that I wasn't able to get to it because I've been busy with vacation, work, etc. But I didn't forget! I'm still busy, so maybe we could make this a group collaboration? As much as I'm starting to lean more toward Warcraft TCG at this point in time, I'd really like to get people here talking about Magic again, so maybe this could breathe life into the subject again.
