This is a book or sci-fi series idea that I came up with. It's a new idea and I wanted to get some input on it so here goes:
The whole place was in a terrified panic. Phones rang off the hook, couriers running back and forth, officers shouting directives. This command center was in a shambles. The satellite's long-range scans had picked up something HUGE heading directly toward Earth and very fast. "Mr. President." General Farrow started, "Nothing's changed. The newest information puts it's size at roughly twice that of Earth and at it's current speed we're at a 25 hour countdown for impact. Sir, in short, whatever we do we need to do it fast. If this thing hits us... it's over." There's a long silence and then a short answer. "Thank you, General. But I think we've thrown everything we have at this. Your country thanks you for all you've done."
CRAP! I'm out of time here but the idea is that it's a spherical spaceship that is big enough to envelope the earth and carry it away. The atmosphere inside the ship is able to sustain and control the planet's light/heat needs and can control the planets gravitational poles, thereby holding it prisoner/ransom. I haven't decided if the ship's pilots/crew's intentions are to sell our population for slavery, food or something else. This could also be a great jump off story for a futuristic story. Any input, suggestions or criticism is welcome.
Thanks guys,

This is an excellent way to start modern based D&D game. In fact, this one of more compelling campaign ideas I've heard in a while, usually that style of play doesn't interest me.
I'd like to say here I love the idea of the Super Mystery. "Rendevous with Rama" is a book that captures the feel of that genre' - the idea that theres SOMETHING going on but protagonists see it from such a minute level or are so alien to it that it's very difficult to put together, even if it's something very simple. Basically every M. Night Shylaman movie ever made. |

whoa...that makes a bunch of things bounce through my head. I like the concept...run with it. I also like the idea that they are gonna sell the Earth's population for something - To me, the way it becomes even more compelling is if the people controlling the spaceship don't reallly want to be doing it in the first place - if they're all slaves themselves. |
