But I do want to talk about this year's DNC. Perhaps this should go into Soapbox for it's nature, but there will be no political debate or debate on political opinions. I don't care about your opinions on their values or the way they want to go about change, but she did a wonderful job. It was a memorable speech that, I'm sort of ashamed to admit, made me tear up like a lot of members of the audience.

Also, Ted Kennedy. He was thriving and amazing to watch. I thought he would now be a crockety man who could hardly walk, but he was, if strange, ever-inspiring. Even if you don't like him, you could recognize the life he was grasping and the purpose it now had.

Finally, there's a report protesters have been acting up. Men with rifles and drugs were arrested, though it's unclear if they were threatening Obama's life.

Not Bobby Kennedy, please. Please. Also, other protesters have been pepper sprayed. Ugh. Just, the very fact that this had to happen, irregardless of the reason. Also, on MSNBC, there was the incident between Chris Matthews and that woman, but I won't talk about that here.

Basically, it'd be nice if this was about Ted Kennedy and his passion for America, whichever way he goes about it and how you may agree with that.

I guess I just had to write something somewhere, and I like you guys, whatever your political affiliation.

Yay for differing opinions!

I still find it incredibly scary that I've heard more about racial slurs, sexism, questioning of Obama's birthplace and McCain's age than I have about the actual issues. Does anyone else feel an impending doom?

The only thing that I fear in this whole thing is Obama getting elected and then some @$$hole shooting him for whatever kind of whack job reason. That would irrevocably kill me a little inside.

I saw something on the BBC news the other day where they were interviewing a group of people from a part of the States that I fail to remember the name of, they struck me as proper redknecks though and were very anti Obama becoming president, the most common reason given "Hussein is his middle name, Hussein is a muslim name, we don't want no terrorist running our country!"

Say what? You're talking about a country who's population is one of the most diverse in the entire world, a country made up of hundreds of different cultures and people who's ancestors come from every single corner of this planet (and if some are to be believed, the Restaurant at the End of the Universe). Yet a man is automatically a Muslim (and therefore a Terrorist) because his name originates from the Middle-East (also ignoring he is a Christian). I think these sort of people are doing more harm to your country than any expanded fear of a terrorist attack will ever do...

That is what annoys me about this country as well. There is a lot of xenophobia here. We also have some of the most welcoming people. It's a country of contradictions.

I'm fine, happy even, that someone will not vote for a particular candidate because the issues. That means they are informed and have reasonable opinions based on a set of values.

But then there are those people that are afraid. They come from all classes and are afraid of a name. Just a name.

Murr.

Meh, I agree with you guys. I think it's so silly people take into account of who they'll vote for because of ethnicity or sex. I vote for who I think goes with what I want best.

And it's so sad to see how many people don't want Obama President because he's half black or didn't want Hillary President because she's a woman. It's just absurd to be bias on things like that.

And these are the same people that will arrogantly claim that we're the greatest country in the world. Regardless of the prosperity that we may have, I think we have a long way to go before we can make such bold claims.

The sad part is that these are the things that occupy the minds of the general populace. No one's talking about the issues, everyone's focusing on the trivialities that don't really matter. I want to know where they stand on the issues, but the Media is turning this election into an episode of Jerry Springer.

Which country would you say qualifies as that? Just as a matter of interest. Please don't say one of the British countries (England, Northern Ireland, yes theres 2 Irelands Wink Wink Scotland and Walesland Razz) because our government has destroyed this country and all future governments will make it worse...

"This?" Try "most" - and it's happening again, just this time the Republicans get some of it with the pick of the VP for their candidate.

A forum like the Saddleback Church and the questions that were asked there tell me a lot that the people aren't interested in what we consider "the issues" - they're interested in knowing whether or not the candidate is someone they can relate to, thinks the way they do, has the same prejudices they do, and goes to the same church they do. Could care less about whether he will bankrupt the Treasury, just so long as the "them" he's fighting is Eastasia or Eurasia the people demand he does.

Something I think is of mention, but that hasn't gotten a lot of play around - in both convention cases, those protesting have been arrested and held without charge, subjected to a gigantic police presence during the convention even if they aren't arrested, and had federal agents infiltrating their groups and raiding their organizations beforehand. In essence, the government treated its own citizens as criminals, terrorists, and less important than the political parties. On that, why aren't more people demanding answers?
