By now I'm sure everyone playing this game has at least heard of the mass level deletions going on. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen in gaming. Yes, the argument could be (and is) made about copyrights but let's be real here: Unless you're a professional programmer you're damn sure gonna make a level based on some game/movie/book/etc that you've enjoyed. This pretty much is like giving a kid a paper and crayons and saying "draw anything you like...as long as it doesn't already exist". Who the hell is actually going to create a GOOD level that has zero percent copyrighted material. No game music, no game references, etc. Come on. And what I most object to is the deletion without explanation thing ("taxation without representation" anyone?). At least send out a standard note to the offending users even if it's a cookie-cutter "Your level was found to have offending content blah blah blah". As it is, putting a picture of Mario is as offensive as adding a shot of a fully erect penis...unless you own the said penis, then I guess it would be alright.

But seriously, how could you create a game like this and not think people would add in other copyrighted properties? Answer: you couldn't. Sony and MM knew this would happen but probably didn't consider the ramifications until alot of time and money had been spent on it. So they simply decided to release it, rape the rewards, and then claim ignorance as they just erase to their heart's content. As a side note, I was reading a story (can't recall where now) where Sony is mulling over charging for user-created levels in the future (ala Activision with Guitar Hero World Tour) so I can see how this would become a problem then. If they charged then they would officially take ownership to some extent and be liable for the content.

I have three pages of rough draft work for a Pokemon level I was planing on but now I know that it would be wiped out the minute I uploaded it. Yeah, I could make it all generic but then what fun would it be?

Anyway, I doubt I'll be playing online with you guys like I had planned before cause whatever level we could be playing in could be gone the next day simply for 1 sticker picture or song (you listening Cobbie?). LBP is seriously starting to look like a "trade-in" game now. I wish I still had my receipt or something. And to think I was gonna get this game for my son and two nephews this Christmas.

F-ck you Sony and MM.

I'd bet that alternative methods of getting and sharing LBP levels show up - although every time you check in, they'll probably be deleted and the items will go away. It's probably because one of those content holders threatened the lawyers... again.

They are just covering their ass Razer. I can understand to an extent. Do I wish it was handled more elegantly? Of course. They could at least warn the user and tell them to pull it down and allow them to make modifications to their creation to make it acceptable.

And just b/c you can't do a pokemon level doesn't mean you can to something similar. Just don't mention pokemon.

You can still make the level, but unless it's First party stuff or stuff on the PS hardware some where... you'll just have to watch it.

And... where did you hear they were thinking of charging? That's never been in the cards from what I have read.
I highly doubt they will do that. The user generated content is a MAJOR part of this game and MM is not Activision so I'm pretty confident that they won't do that.
