I have been meaning to drop a subject on this show since it began. I've been so hooked on it! It is one of the most visually stimulating, heartwarming, funny, fantastical fairy tale crime solving shows ever made.
And because it's so excellent, ABC decided NOT to renew the contract on it. I'm devastated. It has been the saving grace in the pool of crime dramas, reality shows, overly saturated string-along shows and thin writing on television. The shining beacon of whimsy that makes Wednesday nights so darn endearing to sit with my honey on the couch and watch together.
It is written and directed by Bryan Fuller. who you may know from Dead Like Me / Wonderfalls - both with that same kind of whimsical feel. It's the sotry fo a boy, Ned, who has a special gift of touching dead things and bringing them back to life. However, his gift is not without consequence as if he touches them again they are dead forever, and if he lets them live beyond a minute then something in the near vicinity of equal capacity of previous dead thing will die to keep the balance. Ned grows up to be a "fair" pie maker at his establishment, The Pie Hole.
It's been so wonderful to take this journey of vibrant characters and story lines: a private detective, Emerson Cod, who happens upon Ned's gift whilst chasing a perp on the rooftops and strikes a plan with Ned to keep his secret if he helps crack unsolved murder cases; Olive Snook, the pie waitress hopelessly devoted and in love with the pie maker who is carrying more than just that secret; Charlotte "Chuck" Charles, childhood love of Ned who meets an untimely demise during her first wanderlust experience on a cruise and Ned risks bringing back to life; Digby the golden retriever, Ned's loving pooch who was hit by a truck and brought back to life by Ned who accepts Ned's scratches and pets via a wooden hand prosthetic.
There are SO many sweet details that go into this show, so much imagination, so much color that it almost makes you sniffle a bit at how beautiful it is. The story line is so sweet and sometimes preposterous but ALWAYS fun. Each episode is some caper needing to be solved but NEVER leaves out the main characters and their interaction with each other.
I delight at seeing Emerson Cod foster his secret hobby of knitting and making pop-up books. I love watching the ups and downs of the torn love triangle between Ned, Chuck and Olive. I love the crazy aunts of Chuck's that used to be synchronized swimming mermaids in their heyday.
If ever a show I was in love with it's this one. I recently found out ABC decided not to continue the contract and even more so leaves the story on a cliff hanger! So I guess I'll be picking up the show on DVD and hope and pray (and yes, I signed the petition to renegotiate) that Pushing Daisies will continue on somehow.
If you love fairy tales, phenomenal wardrobes, stimulating scenery, impeccable writing, romance, danger and excitement give this show a shot. Even in 2 seasons they have accomplished so much and you certainly won't be disappointed (unless you are Shandriz. ) |

Tina and I love the show, I love the narrator. Yeah I'm torn about the "cliff hanger"bit. The guy who created Pushing Daisies is also the guys who wrote ALOT of the really good Heroes episodes and he said that if PD got canceled that he would probably go back to writing for Heroes. As much as I love PD, Heroes needs all the help it can get right now and its still my #1 show.
Brecken Myer and Seth Green playing comic nerds in the upcoming episodes FTW!
but I still hope PD gets picked back up. |

It's coming in via Netflix, I saw that season one on Blu-Ray was pretty cheap! I saw it for 26.99 on Amazon. I might have to snatch it up if I dig it |

I love Pushing Daisies! Especially Kristen Chenowith who plays Olive. she is cute and perky, has the voice of a goddess, (she was on broadway for awhile) and is just generally sweet and nice.
My girl crush has begun. <sighs dreamily>
I definitely need to get the dvd and really need to find some of her performances. |

It is a good show. I am saddened that it will probably not be continuing. That seems to be a trend with good shows on television. |

ABC has decided to not pick up Pushing Daisies for the second half of the season. They also cancelled Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money, which are pretty much all I watch on ABC...way to go dumbasses. I really hope at least that PD and Eli gets picked up somewhere else. Looks like Brian Fuller will be going back to Heroes tho to write for them again, at least thats some "good" news.
Quote: | It's not a big surprise, but for many of us, it's a big disappointment. ABC has cancelled "Pushing Daisies," "Dirty Sexy Money," and "Eli Stone"! The network has not actually used the word "cancelled," but it is not picking up the shows for the second halves of their seasons. Which, essentially, means cancellation.
This should be interesting. All three of those series have developed very passionate, if small, fan bases. Will ABC be barraged by daisies and dirty Monopoly money and George Michael discs? I know that NBC changed its mind a little bit after the "Lipstick Jungle" fans spoke, and "Jericho" was famously brought back by CBS due to the fans' campaign. We'll see.
I suspect that the "Pushing Daisies" people will be most upset, and most vocal -- even though creator Bryan Fuller has already talked to Kristin at E! about keeping the story alive in comic books and a big-screen movie. The rest of the finished episodes will air, by the way, which should also offer some consolation.
But I'm most sorry to see "Dirty Sexy Money" go. Next to "Gossip Girl," it has been TV's most fun-loving and yet dramatically solid soap opera. I admired "Daisies," and recognized the value of its originality, and honor ABC for giving it a shot in the first place, but I was hooked on "Dirty Sexy Money." I'll miss you, my Darlings. |

Yeeaaaaah, and left on a cliffhanger to boot! JUST WHEN THEY BRING IN GEORGE HAMILTON! I love him so!
Apparently there have been talks about post-production cleanup to give some closure. Right now there is a huge rally to get another network to pick up the show but I don't think it's going to happen. Kristen Chenoweth has been officially picked up for a new David E. Kelly legal show called "Legally Mad" on NBC so who knows. |

i heard rumors that Pushing Daisies is really expensive to produce, what with the really specific style. I feel a little bad for the Director of Photography (but not that much ) . |

Good news (at least temporarily).
ABC is going to air the final three episodes starting May 30th at 10pm. Yes it's a Saturday night but for all who need the fix they are starting the week of the 30th and then the next two the following Saturdays. TUNE IN! |
